I was sad to see the original business founders sell this product line away as they got out of the bonsai business, but I have enjoyed the quality and appearance of this soil mix. Gratefully, their legacy will continue with the new owners. The contrasting white and black are pleasing to the eye and there is not an excessive amount of dusty "fines" to deal with. The bag is sturdy and stands up to shipping and storage without popping holes in the side I've experienced in other brands. The mix of pumice, lava, clay, and organics give pant roots a great substrate to develop and maintain the plants.

I am very picky about my soils, any, and all potting soils... So when I found one I had been using for my bonsai plants, unavailable, I was forces to go look into another brand, and was delighted to find this one, which to me rates as a GREAT #1 choice. I always sift my bonsai soil, finding too much garbage such as pine needles, pine cones, you name it, but this was very clean, and the owner got it out right away, getting to my place in a day... This will be my go to Bonsai soil from now on!

Product is as described. I sifted it to remove the dust and got about 1/4 cup out of this 20 it bag. Not bad at all. I transplanted my 15 year old tamarind bonsai tree, pruning the roots by 2-3 inches and it's doing well.

Works well but quite pricey for the size of bag.

Seems great so far, the particles were nice and fine as the package said, package was easy to open and resealability of package is easy.

I do Bonsai as a hobby and by no means am an expert, but I have quite a few healthy plants. I wanted to test this vs the traditional bonsai mix of akadama, pumice, lava rock 1:1:1 ratio. I used 2 Japanese Bloodgood maples i purchased that are the same stock and roughly the same size and age. I am at 11 months and the maple in the traditional mix already has all its leaves. The one in this mix has only started to bud. I repotted the one with this mix by simply by adding akadama to it and right away it started doing much better. On another note, the maker of this mix claims it to be cheaper than using akadama. This has not been my experience, even with some waste you get with most akadama the brands I used to make my own mix were actually a bit cheaper than this premix bag. I gave this 3 stars because well, it didn't kill my plant and the ingredients used in my opinion were of good quality.
