Starting a Spiritual Business - Inspiration, Case Studies and Advice: Featuring Diana Cooper and Ian Lawman Paperback – February 28, 2014

I gave this three stars because if you are looking for inspirational stories on people who have started a business, this is a nice little book. If you want to actually start the business and you want some concrete help, not so much. The stories are lovely and this book can help you wrap your mind around starting a business, but find a better book when you are actually ready to get started.

Published in 2014, this is a lovely little book composed of practitioner stories -- how they started, their challenge and reflections, and general business advice. The table of contents is organized by field of practice, e.g. reiki, aromatherapy, etc., followed by a chapter of practical advice and another of contacts and associations. The practitioners and associations are mostly in UK, Australia, and other parts of Europe and USA.Each practitioner's story is unique, so I find support and inspiration there, and they even have good general advice which isn't easy to find just on the internet from strangers. However, their advice is definitely generic and high level, and not a guide for starting a business. I will say if you finish the book, you'll spot trends and themes of those advice, and get a feel of what's important. There’s a chapter dedicated to the practical steps, but again it’s one step ahead from where the stories left us. I feel there’s a gap between the stories and the business and professional association information.In summary, it's a nice companion to get you started and keep you going, because those personal thoughts are hard to get from established practitioners and what gets you out of a rut sometimes, and this book puts them at the same place for you. Also, it gets you thinking about professional training, insurance, physical space. But for a practical guide on how to do these things and how to consider them, it’s not quite there. One of the next books on my list is The Business Side of a Spiritual Practice.
