Learn to draw the popular classic script with this easy-to-use, full-color, and very modern guide. Pointed pen calligraphy doesn't have to be intimidating! This photo-packed guide breaks down every skill, step, and stroke into easy-to-learn techniques. It shows you how to build a solid foundation in drawing beautiful letters as well as ways to add flourishes and embellishments to your personal projects. Nothing is overlooked, including: • Step-by-Step Instructions • Color Photos • Practice Pages • Expert Tips and Tricks • DIY Projects • Inspiration and Ideas Review: Very Detailed Guide and Easy to Follow! - Detailed guide on calligraphy for beginners! This book goes into everything with lots of details and pictures, including what materials to use and where to buy it (from paper to ink to pens!). The author provides lots of picture examples and divides the book into easy-to-follow sections of practicing, lowercase letters, uppercase letters, how to stylize your writing, numbers, different fonts, and even projects you can do. There’s a really clear format on how to write certain shapes and the sizing of letters using lines from rulers, and they give you the language necessary to talk about those shapes and letter forms using pictures. I found this book extremely thorough and helpful, and it definitely motivated me to get into calligraphy and give this gift to others who’ve always wanted to learn! I thought it would be so much harder and more complicated than it actually was, but after you have all the right materials it’s actually pretty easy to understand when the process is broken down in this way! Definitely recommend as a gift to teens and adults with an artistic streak! Review: My favorite quote in the book is “Every artist was first an amateur.” - This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn Calligraphy. I would say this is a beginners book. Step by step directions are easy to follow. Paper needed for practice can be copied so there is not need to purchase separately. All items needed are clearing pictured and described. This book uses the nib style pointed-pen lettering style. Only additional supplies needed are ink, paper, and pencil. If using other kinds of ink, more supplies will be needed. This book also suggests getting a light box. This would make it easier to learn by tracing from the example underneath the light. Light colored paper would need to be used. A great starter book to see if there is an interest in learning Calligraphy. My favorite quote in the book is “Every artist was first an amateur.”

Excellent resource!!!
This workbook has all the essentials for the beginning calligrapher, as well as wonderful tips for calligraphers who are more experienced and are working to polish and fine-tune their craft. Sarah does an incredibly eloquent job in detailing - literally from A-Z - what happens when you get your first pen and nib all the way to when you’re already advancing and wanting to add elegance to your finished product. I also LOVE how her personality comes through in this workbook (and if you follow Sarah on Instagram, you’ll understand what I mean). She talks about how calligraphy as an art and discipline is really a way to find your own voice and make it known, which to me, is now helping me think of what I really want to convey as a calligrapher, how I want to express my words, and how my personal style can manifest my voice through my work. I originally bought this for my nieces and my own kids because they are constantly asking me to teach them calligraphy..... but I quickly found it to be a great resource for me, as I move into working as a full time calligrapher. Kudos to Sarah for a job well-done!

Perfect for that old-timey friend
Got a wedding coming up and trying to do it on the cheap? Do you teach a skill and want to make a really nice diploma for your graduates? Or do you just love all that old-timey stuff and wish you lived in the world of Jane Eyre? This compact, easy to read book by Sarah Richardson might be your savior for all of the above. Sarah's book, Copperplate Calligraphy from A to Z is a fantastic introduction to the art of calligraphy, or as she puts it, drawing beautiful letters. She notes that this is an affordable hobby (yay!) and gives you all her tips and tricks for getting started on the right foot. This book is perfect for DIY folks who want to be able to make gorgeous cards, addressed envelopes, official-looking documents or just enjoy fancy writing in their everyday lives. Highly recommend this primer on calligraphy.

A Beautiful Guide
This is such a beautiful book! Calligraphy is something I've always admired but never had the patience to actually learn. I'm hoping this book will help me change that (and if not, it's going to make a great gift for my calligrapher mom!!). I very much appreciated all the photos and examples in this book. It made it so much easier to figure out if I was holding the pen the correct way or if I was doing my letter properly. I appreciated the suggestions of materials, the tips for beginners, and care that went into each paragraph about strokes. Truly, this is a step by step guide. My one criticism is that the practice pages in the back are very glossy, which seems bad for actually writing on with ink. I ended up just photo-copying those pages. All in all, I think this book is a great guide for those looking to brush up on their skills or those just beginning to learn calligraphy.

Helpful hints and easy to follow tips
Very thorough - the first few pages list items by brand that the author prefers, then moves on into how to use some of those tools- the practice pages are near the back of the book. The best part of it was learning that I can make my own ink using gouache which I happen to already own. It isn't the same brand that she recommended, but for practicing purposes its good to know I can do that without buying more supplies. The book is a great addition to learning more. A good gift, too, because you can just pile all the supplies together.

The perfect book for anyone looking at improving their caligraphy
As a woman in her early 30's my life involves around bachelorette parties, weddings, and baby showers. The struggle is real! All of these expenses add up so offering caligraphy to friends has been a great way to add some extra $$ to my pocket. This book is a great step-by-step book to really master caligraphy, for every occasion. Although, there is a LOT of instruction, it makes understanding the "how to" of caligraphy super easily. The author does a pretty good job of talking technique. If your a visual learner, this may not be the best book as there is definitely a lot more about technique and not as much visuals, overall, I was realy happy with tihs book. I'm glad that they include some practice sheets in the back so that you can practice your technique. I found that super helpful. This book is perfect for anyone who wants to get an in-depth lesson and understanding of caligraphy from lowercase to capital, to how to address a letter and other projects.

A Beautiful Book
Buying a calligraphy book without being able to page through to examine the contents is truly buying on faith that the author will come through as promised in the review. This author came through with flying colors! This is a beautiful book -- great examples of the art of copperplate calligraphy plus lots of examples of how to flourish and plan projects. There was also a section on pens and supplies that I found particularly helpful. The book was a steal for the price and was delivered in record time. I am very, very pleased with my choice.

Excellent intro to the Copperplate Script
This is a relatively slim book but packed with information and explanations at every step of the way. I particularly like the use of colour to show how the letters are formed. Although the copperplate script is a few hundred years old, this book feels fresh and modern.
