Great bit for lutherie binding
Gives a clean even width rabbet for binding around the edge of a guitar when used with one of the vertical-travel binding jigs. The 3-flute cutter with downward-angled cutting edges produces a clean surface even when using a conventional (non-climb) cut. The supplied bearings allow depths in increments of 1/32", but tape can be used on the surface of the bearings to provide dinner gradations. Great bit at a great price!

Unbelievably clean cuts.
I have this bit on a hand held, not in a table. Still it's perfect. I used it on a minty fresh, painted blonde body, not sanded wood. Still, it is perfect. Masking tape and zero chip out. I even have it in a $80 Harb Fr8 router. And, still its dadgum perfect. I'd never even thought about putting binding on my guitar. Now I've done three and I DARE you to find a flaw. It's this bit that's making it so easy. And proper size binding. And maybe the glue. And also measuring.Mostly the bit.

No bearing for 0.06" material
Leaves an immaculate surface. Small issue, but 0.06" binding from Stew Mac fell between two bearing sizes. Had to scrape almost 1/3rd of the thickness off. I just need to find a source for metric binding.

Another Guitar Project
Add my project to the list of guitars that other customers have built with this Amana bit. Far more cost-effective without the Stewmac tax, and comes with more bearings. I mounted the bit in a router table to cut the binding channel on this mahogany Tele with quilt-maple veneer I'm working on.

This is not deep enough for binding and purfling.

Pilot shaft too long for wide purfling.
I wanted to use this to cut the ledge for 1/8" wide herringbone purfling inside 1/16" wide binding. Plan was to cut the 1/16 binding ledge then ride the bearing against that to cut the 1/8" wide purfling ledge.Unfortunately, the pilot shaft/bearing is too long to sit inside the binding groove and then cut the 1/8" ledge for the purfling. The bottom of the bearing is about 1/2" from the bottom of the blade so it has to ride on the outside of the guitar. So the maximum combined binding/purfling width is 1/8 inch. Sadly, I had to return this otherwise well made tool.
