Review: good start to a new series... - LUCKY CHARM is a stand alone read with a HEA. It is quite sexy if that is an issue for you. The hero's family is believed to be cursed by an enemy's ancestor many generations ago. The men are cursed to never find peace and true love. They all believe it because their love lives have all been tragic. The hero was in love with the heroine when they were in high school. Wanting to spare her the pain of misfortune he breaks it off with her. He does marry a girl from college that he got pregnant. No problem with the curse because he is not in love with her. Their child is around 10 when they finally divorce, she lives with her mother and there is a lot of typical fighting between the parents with the child in the middle. The mother finds a new love and they marry. She reluctantly allows the daughter to stay with her dad while she honeymoons in Europe for a month. She is now 11 and a very intelligent child. She loves her father and spending time with him. She is a very well adjusted child. and now 15 years later his first love returns to town. I LOVED this heroine. She was one hot cookie, she knew what she wanted and she had no problems letting him know that she wanted him and she intended to by-pass the curse and spend the rest of her life with him. He still fears for her and even though he wanted her he wanted her safe. She is a writer of the paranormal genre. She comes to town with the intention of debunking the curse. It is a small town so there is a lot of fear and misinformation that she is going to have to get through to get to the truth. The family that did the curse is still in town also. they rule through fear. I thought this was a good story. There was mystery, adventure, bad guys, and one evil old woman. But, love conquers all. It was an entertaining read and I definitely recommend it. It was a little different kind of story for Ms. Phillips but it was an easy read and still good. It is very sexy so if that is a problem for you be advised. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 11/23/17 Review: Lucky Charm by Carly Phillips - Derek Corwin is a financial planner. He is divorced and has an eleven-year-old daughter, Holly. He lives under a curse. All the men in his family live under the curse. The Corwin Curse states "every Corwin male who married for love would be destined to loose his woman and his fortune." He thought by ending his relationship with his high school sweetheart, Gabrielle, whom he loved, and marrying Holly's mom, Marlene, whom he didn't love, he wouldn't be affected by the curse. He was wrong. Gabrielle Donovan is a popular author who debunks myths. Thanks to her librarian friend, Sharon Merchant, she is giving a lecture on Curses: Irrational Psychological Suggestion at the Perkins-Stewart Public Library. Her next book will be on the Corwin Curse. She plans to research the curse in the towns of Perkins and Stewart. Mary Perkins, mayor of Perkins, is a direct ancestor to the original Mary Perkins who cursed the Corwins. Mary Perkins is willing to win the mayor's race by any means necessary. She doesn't welcome Gabrielle's interference. Hank Corwin, Derek's father, doesn't appreciate Gabrielle reminding the folks about the curse. He feels she is humiliating his family and plans to speak out at the lecture. Gabrielle plans to seduce her high school sweetheart, whom she thought loved her. She hasn't been able to move past Derek Corwin. She needs to know where she stands with him. Gabrielle let Derek walk away from her fourteen years ago. She won't let him walk away again. This is a light, contemporary romance perfect for a quick read. The plot is solid. There is a subplot or two which is not resolved. The characters are likeable. There are two stories. The first is the romance between Gabrielle and Derek. The second story is Sharon Merchant, who is being blackmailed, and her fiance, Richard Stern, who is running in the mayor's race against Mary Perkins. Both stories are sewn seamlessly together in the HEA ending. Over all, a good, first book in the series, and a solid four star rating.

A story that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.
I absolutely loved this story! Actually it's a two for one. Yep, you got it. There are two stories within this story. The first is the romance between Gabrielle and Derek, which is so intense, but also fun, and a bit scary at times. The second story is Sharon Merchant, who is being blackmailed, and her fiance, Richard Stern, who is running in the mayor's race against Mary Perkins, the wicked witch of the town who thinks her wealth entitles her to do what ever she wants, no matter who she hurts in the process. Both stories are sewn seamlessly together, and by the end, we are treated with a very beautiful HEA ending. This story has everything it takes to take a story from a good story, to a phenomenal read. Holly, Derek's 11 yr old daughter, was a real highlight for me, as was her grandfather's old Bassett hound dog. I loved the fact that the women in this story were strong, stubborn characters who were willing to take on the town's witch, no matter what the cost to set things right for the people who've been terrorized for decades. I loved all of the characters, in fact. I thought they, and all of the situation that arose felt real and believable.

Cute
200 years ago, Derek Corwin's ancestor fell in love and eloped with a woman already engaged to another man. The other man's mother was a witch and cast a spell on all Corwin men - they would lose whomever they loved as well as their fortune. So, after falling madly in love with his high school girl friend, Derek breaks up with her hoping to avoid heartbreak for them both. Gabrielle Donovan never got over Derek, but has moved on with her life and is now a successful author. She comes back to their hometown her her best friend and town librarian asks her to speak at a library event. Gabrielle's books debunk popular myths and she's planing to interview locals about the "Corwin curse" for her next book. She's also planning to convince Derek that he made the mistake of his life when he broke up with her years ago. I liked all the characters and enjoyed the book. There were some loose ends and the "villain" was pretty transparent.

Intrigue,heartache and romance!
What more can you ask for in a story! Derek and Gabrielle’s history is filled with all that plus an endearing precocious pre teen Holly and a Bassett Hound Fred! I don’t believe in writing a synopsis have always felt the author/publishing company can do it better. What is up to me to decide is whether I should recommend said book or not. Well this one is definitely worth 4 stars it is well written and has all I could want in a contemporary romance with a touch of suspense. Why only 4 Stars? Would have liked the suspenseful bits developed a little deeper and somehow brought to a conclusion.......My guess this will follow in possibly Book 2 etc. Definitely recommend

A family curse and second chance at love turned into a small town mystery/conspiracy
Derek Corwin knew his family was cursed... every Corwin man who married for love ended up broke and divorced (or worse). He thought he could outmaneuver the curse by breaking up with his true love at 18... and married a girl after getting her pregnant, without love. And for a while, it seems to have worked... He made a ton of money as an investment advisor... Until the economy ruined him and his wife divorced him. Now he lived back in his hometown, with a teenager daughter, and a lot of regret... Until the girl he thought he left behind, Gabrielle, came back into town, now a famous writer determined to prove that curses are just silly superstitions... But someone in town is determined to preserve the status quo, and Gabby may be in danger... Not the first book I've read with the same premise (family is cursed to be broken hearted), this one turned it into a small-town conspiracy/mystery rather than rom-com. OTOH there seems to be a few too many characters, but this is a series starter, and other characters need to show up as support casts now so they become stars later. It felt a wee bit long, but the twist at the end was pretty good.

Charming
Derek and Gabby were meant to be together as teenagers and then because of the Corwin Curse Derek broke things off with Gabby and they went there separate ways. But neither if them forgot each other or stopped loving each other. When they both end up in their home town at the same time will they be able to move on and forget the curse. There also is some crazy stuff that is going on that people in the town believe is the curse but is it really. I loved this story and hadn't read this series even though it was an older one. I loved Sharon and Richards story also and their relationship. Plus Holly, Hank, Thomas and Fred the dog there is so many interesting people and stories. This was book was great with interesting stories.

Great second chance love story
The Corwin men have been cursed since the era of the Salem witch trials to fail in a marriage of love and lose their fortune. As crazy as that sounds, generations seem to prove it is true. Derek Corwin deeply loves his high school sweetheart, Gabrielle, so for her own good, he lets her go. She moves out of state a short while later with her family. He marries a college interest, who got pregnant, and they had a daughter, are divorced and she remarried at the opening of the story. Holly, his 11 year old daughter, has come to live with Derek for part of the summer. Gabrielle still loves Derek and no man she has met has been able to measure up to him. She has had success in her career as an author. She recently moved back to the area and has every intent of proving the curse cannot be real and winning Derek's love. There is the obvious drama and conflict in this second chance romance. There is also a second story with Gabrielle's best friend and her fiance. It involves a suspense story in the second half of the story.

A second chance romance with a curse that kept them apart for 14 years. It’s a cute story with a little bit of suspense and mystery, but not enough to get me really into it. I liked the characters and the plot, but didn’t find it exciting. So if you are looking for an easy read, then this is for you.

Great read
This was a great book. I do love the fairy tale endings though. Life is full of stresses so I like a book where I can lose myself in and always has a happy ending. Corny I know.

Kein Keeper!!!!
