I love old time movies and this is one of the greats it's a must-see

I watched both this and The King and I. I think I like this one the best.

The picture is equivalent to Blu Ray Quality! I am very pleased with my digital purchase!

This was an excellent adaptation of the book but is not the later musical version. This movie predates and perhaps inspired the creation of that musical. This movie is very enjoyable once you accept Rex Harrison as the King of Siam. I think he does a remarkable job with the part. This movie shows many areas where cultures clashed between the very traditional English school teacher and the very traditional royal court of Siam.

This should be added to Black History Month, perhaps with some research into the effect this had on bringing African Americans to the Silver Screen/Hollywood.

Much as I love Deborah Kerr, Irene Dunne makes the role her own. And as for comparing Yul Brynner with Rex Harrison, it would be like comparing a Western gunslinger with a British linguistics professor.

I especally wanted to buy this movie, since it was the straight dramatic forerunner to The King and I. Furthermore, I lived in Thailand for 30 years, where the name of Anna Leonowens is held in the utmost esteem. Nevertheless, those Hollywood fatheads decided to change it to plain Owens, for their customary nonsensical reasons.That's not all they did wrong. In the course of the film, the heroine's (Anna's, that is) young son gets killed in an accident. To me, that is virtual heresy. In real life, he grew up and founded a business enterprise which still thrives today. It was actually a professional client of mine. This tinseltown tendency to fiddle around with history really turns me off.Still, the film was well acted and directed, pretty much following the story line of The King and I decades later. Irene Dunne and Rex Harrison did their normally excellent jobs in the two lead roles. However, the most unforgettable performance was turned in by Lee J. Cobb, as the country's gruff but sensitive Prime Minister.In summary, therefore, despite the stupidity evidenced by the screenwriter and the producers, this movie is recommended as a fitting supplement to the Yul Brynner/Deborah Kerr musical version of more recent vintage.

GREAT MOVIE, GOOD ACTING,

I always loved The King and I film with Yul Brynner then years later watched the version with Chow Yun- fat. The whole story is fascinating so I bought this version with Rex Harrison. I had read some reviews which said he was mis cast but I enjoyed it. The films led me to reading about the real Anna. What a fascinating person she was.

le film Anna et le Roi avec Irene DUNNE Rex HARRISON est excellent.Ce film à la version la plus proche de l'histoire écrite par Anna Leonnowens.Les acteurs sont excellents.J'ai regardé également la version chantée " avec Yul Brunner et Déborah Kerr. Pour ma part je n'ai pas du tout aimé cette version qui n'a rien à voir avec l'histoire écrite par Anna .La version d'Anna et le Roi avec Jodie Foster et Chow Yun-Fat est également excellente par la prestation des deux acteurs principaux, par contre l'histoire est très romancée , mais ne correspond pas avec le livre d'Anna .Donc conclusion: La version avec Irene DUNNE et Rex Harrison est la meilleur et celle avec Fodie Foster est magnifique, à regarder pour le romanesque et la beauté des décors.

Very good film to watch exciting story and excellent actors/actresses appearing.

It is a wonderful old movie that I saw in many years ago and saw it on the Turner movie channel.So I'm happy to have this DVD so I can watch it again.
