## Overview

The SureFire DSF-870 WeaponLight is a compact, ultra-durable tactical light designed specifically for the Remington 870 shotgun. Featuring a powerful 600-lumen LED with a secondary 200-lumen mode that doubles runtime, it offers versatile illumination for close- to medium-range applications. Ambidextrous switching and a system-disable feature provide precise, user-friendly control, while its Mil-Spec anodized aluminum body and weatherproof seals guarantee rugged reliability in any environment.

## Description

Featuring two levels of tactical illumination, ambidextrous switching, a slender ergonomic design, and legendary SureFire reliability and durability, the DSF-870 is the ultimate WeaponLight for Remington 870 combat shotguns. This compact, lightweight system replaces the weapon’s original factory forend and features a recoil-proof LED that generates 600 lumens of blinding white light at maximum output, or 200 lumens with twice the runtime on its high setting. The LED’s light is focused by a precision reflector to create a smooth, wide beam perfect for closer-range shotgun applications typical in law enforcement and home defense-with enough reach and surround light to properly identify threats and maintain situational awareness. The DSF-870 features large, tactile momentary and constant-on switches on both sides for precise control by left- and right-handed shooters. Selecting the LED’s output is achieved by activating the light in constant-on mode and then pressing the output-mode selector switch until the desired output level (600 or 200 lumens) is set. The selected output can then be left in constant-on mode or switched to momentary activation, and it stays at that output level until reset. Every DSF-Series WeaponLight also features an integrated system-disable switch to prevent accidental activation during transport, storage, or stealth operations.A lightweight but strong aluminum module protects the optics, LED, and sophisticated electronics, minimizing length with side-by-side placement of the two lithium batteries that power the system. The module has a Mil-Spec hard anodized finish to protect against scratches, abrasion, and corrosion, while O-ring and gasket seals keep out moisture, dust, and debris. The slender forend body is made from extremely tough polymer and is textured for a secure hold and features large, tactile momentary and constant-on switching on both sides for precise control by left- and right-handed shooters.

Review: Absolutely solid and effective light - I purchased this light for my personal 870P. The "day job" shotguns have a variety of older Surefire lights (618LMGs et al) and my only criticism of the older versions is the "bulk" of the gripping area. The DSF-870 has a somewhat slimmer profile and is, I think, a more solidly-built improvement over those versions. I will likely replace the older lights on agency shotguns with these as the older ones go out-of-service (which means, generally speaking, "not for a while," since even the old ones are built like tanks.) Unlike earlier iterations, this model is ambidextrous and both left- or right-handed shooters have used mine with no issues. The slimmer overall profile keeps your support hand closer to the bore axis than earlier models (or competitor's models like the Eotech forends) which you'll appreciate if you're transitioning to this from a "naked" 870 forend. It results in the shotgun pointing more naturally than with some of the bulkier options. High-output is great if you're contemplating using it outdoors. Indoors, the "bounce back" from white walls be problematic (imagine 600 lumens reflected back at you, in a dark room, at a time when you most need your night vision intact.) Try both modes, but know that the low mode is probably more than enough for indoor or home-defense use. Installation will require a forend wrench. Surefire includes a small one with the product. Alignment matters; if you install it yourself, make sure when you crank down on the locking ring that the forend is straight, otherwise, you might experience some binding when you cycle the action. The battery-drain issue noted in the early units appears to have been corrected. This is just a good, all-around, effective piece of equipment. I'm trying to find something to be critical of, but really can't.
Review: Great Tactical Light - This completes the tactical shotgun. It has a mean look and the light is blinding. It alone might fend off an intruder. It is an expensive accessory. I feel it is worth the money. Very well made. One thing to note is that the shotgun must be partially disassembled to install it. If you don't feel comfortable with that have a gunsmith install it. I would also reccomend not over tightening the cylinder that holds it on the slide rails. If you do it will case the slide to bind.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this compatible with the Remington Tac-14?**
A: The DSF will work with a TAC-14.
However it is a poor choice due to the small amount of smooth grip surface at the rear of the DSF.

**Q: Are the light and battery removable? I'd like to avoid unnecessary wear and tear when I'm at the range.**
A: They are, but they're really sturdy. I wouldn't remove the light and battery for range trips, as this will expose the battery chamber to the elements. The weak point of this light is actually the two roll pins in the back that keep everything together. The recoil tends to drive them out. So after every 25-50 rounds give them a couple taps with a roll pin punch and a ball peen hammer until they're flush. This will prevent having to ship the unit back to Surefire.

**Q: Will this work on a SuperNova?**
A: It is specifically designed to fit the action bar assembly on an 870. It will not fit a Supernova or any other pump shotgun that is not a 12ga. Rem 870.

**Q: Will this fit the remington 870 tac-14 arm brace?**
A: It certainly should

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great function. Needs some tweaks.
*by B***N on September 9, 2022*

This is a great light. Everyone wants ultra bright now. Indoors, brightest isn't best. Some suggest this should be brighter for the cost. I disagree. I bought the SureFire model because of the availability of a 200 lumen mode. I also like the alternative switches for tap on and press on. The lockout switch is great too. It's too heavy for what it is. Somehow the weight could probably be improved and still be durable enough for recoil. The primary problem though is the grip. It's a bit short and not quite textured enough for a solid grip. Texturing reminiscent of a traditional corn cob stock would be awesome as well as a longer grip area.
