Great machine, not for beginners
I’ve only used for cover stitching so far. It is a great machine. Never thought I’d love cover stitching so much or find it so useful. I only bought it for heming but im funding so many more ways to use it! I love it. Wish I’d bought one years ago! It is a bit fiddly I set the tension and thread the right loopers and which needles go where for which type of stitch. Just be sure to read your manual carefully and you’ll get it. Would not recommend for beginners. But if you already familiar with serging and/or coverstiching you’ll love it! Bought a clear cover stitch foot and it’s so much easier to line up the stitches.

Great deal/great machine!
I was nervous about making such a big investment for a purchase that wasn’t Amazon Prime. I looked up Sewing Precision- Sewing, Quilting, Embroidery. and found their company website and that they are a Bernina dealer. I took a chance and am so glad I did. This is my first serger. The cost is the best I had found, the serger shipped quickly and is a beast. A serger/cover stitch combo! I’ve taken an online class through Annie’s and have played with the machine and love it! I’m hoping to get the presser foot set next and will definitely contact the same company when I save up for the set.

Machine was broken and smelled of bad motor oil
The machine reeked of bad motor oil! Several of the thread holders were broken. There were scurf marks on the machine. I found the box of sewing needles inside the lower mechanism of the machine.

This is the choice
Since there are not many choices of a combo machine with reasonable prices, this B48 is clearly the best choice! I love the design, with clean lines and industrial feeling. I guess the reason why not many reviews here is because people tends to avoid the troubles of changing the needles and re-thread etc, but if you have limited space at home, with a budget, then this is your choice. It is quieter than the Brother 2430 CV. If you practice a bit more, you will know how to use the machine more efficiently.

DO NOT BUY A USED MACHINE.
The media could not be loaded. The color coding system was placed in the wrong spot and also the foot presser lifter worked differently.

Used machine did not work correctly
Unfortunately I couldn’t afford a new Bernette b48, so I purchased a used one. The machine box was inside of a larger Amazon box and was not paddled adequately, and in was not kept upright. So I suspect damage from being banged around in transport. The threading is complex but not impossible if you have threaded a serger before and if you read the manual carefully as well as see some videos (thanks YouTube!). When I used plain broadcloth (non stretch) fabric, the machine worked to do a cover stitch. Then I decided to try a four thread overlock, which requires the use of the lower looper. After carefully getting it all threaded, the machine would do a couple of stitches and then the lower looper thread would break and the whole time there was a metal on metal sound…the needles were hitting the lower looper mechanism when the needles were below the plate. The lower looper was getting scratched by the needles and it did not look like it was supposed to be as close to the lower looper arm (see circled green in picture). Anyway, I had to return it. I wish I could afford a new one, but I want a refund and I was told by Amazon I have to wait 14 days after the machine is returned, which is ridiculous considering the high price and the fact that it was defective!!

Cheap trick
I got my machine and figure out that needles are missing!According to the instruction in the accessories list it should be needle set, and inside the looper cover there is special space for it. But the slot is EMPTY! I have checked whole package, but didn't find this set.Two needles are inserted to the machine, but some stitches needs three needles.Description on the site doesn't point that there is lack of needles. The price of the machine is pretty high, and so cheap trick. Very disappointed.
