Revamping of the Student Study Bible
I am constantly recommending study Bibles to fellow believers, and because of that, I am thrilled with this new option. When the original ESV Study Bible came out, I felt that the exhaustive collection of notes was overkill for the general Christian. (I picked one up, but I'm also a theology nut.) Plus, it was pricey and (at least until the Personal Size edition) unwieldy. The Student Study Bible came next, and while I was relieved to see the number of notes pared down to the essentials, I also knew that most adults would feel uncomfortable with its name. Sure, it's not nearly as ludicrous as the Extreme Teen Bible, but it's still sorta embarrassing, and it implies a substandard level of understanding (rather than what it actually entails: a sub-seminary need for understanding).Recently, I saw this new item, the Global Study Bible, pop up on Amazon and on Crossway's site. My first assumption was that it was merely another watered-down gimmick Bible with some photos and quotes from missionaries--and no accompanying substance. There are certainly plenty of fluff Bibles available, and with the recent release of the Student Study Bible, I was not expecting another edition so soon on that level. Well, upon checking out the GSB, I discovered that it was essentially a rebranding of the SSB with a new set of internationally-themed articles to replace those found in the previous two editions. While that news might turn off some buyers, it had me thrilled. "Global" certainly had a more pleasing connotation than "Student" on a Bible cover, and the study notes were still as superb as ever!Even better, the Global Study Bible offers dual incentives on the monetary front, allowing you to save a few pennies and perform a charitable act at the same time (as contradictory as that sounds). This volume is less expensive than either its parent or its sibling, which makes it an even more appealing choice for people on a budget or for those who are looking to stuff some stockings this Christmas. Even better, Crossway has decided to make a digital copy of the GSB available for free to someone in need for every purchase. In other words, you're not just buying a Bible for yourself or a loved one: you're buying one for someone across the world as well! And here you thought that you'd never have an opportunity to do mission work! The ESV Global Study Bible is easily the best option that Crossway has to offer. With notes sufficient for the average Christian (you know, the one who feels that three pages on the various interpretations of Revelation 20 is a bit much), a wallet-friendly price, and a program to help you spread the Word where it's most desperately needed, the GSB is truly a blessing...and a must-buy.

Not the Most User Friendly, But the Content is Good!
Full disclosure: One of the editorial contributors is a friend of mine and I'm proud of him and the work that has gone into this version of the ESV. That said, I'm still getting used to the Bible-on-a-Kindle thing. I don't like the fact that I cannot return to the text from which I jumped when tapping a footnote, and that I can't consistently retrieve the navigation pane to get to the table of contents to get to the book and then the chapter from which I came. The insights in the footnotes are good, but this Kindle version of the Bible is not the easiest to use in a church service or Bible study setting. Now, as for sitting and reading, it's a readable ESV Bible and that's a very good thing.

FABULOUS Biblical study tool!!!
One of the best resources I have ever been gifted with for studying the Bible. I already have 2 versions of the ESV Bible...in both print and for my kindles/PC. Ilove them both. This one is superior. It offers a preview and synopsis of each book of the bible along with extensive background information and supporting maps, documentation. It also offers easy to access footnotes, which my Paperwhite Kindle version isn't so great at. This is an invaluable tool and I'd encourage those looking for more insight into The Word to try it out. You don't need to buy a kindle; the reader is free for all laptops/pc's/tablets. It's well worth looking into.

Great free Bible!
I downloaded this and I use AlReader (also free - It looks like a blue letter "A" wearing glasses!) as my reader (Other readers cut off the illustrations). It is slow to load but once it's up, I can navigate around the bible as, though it's its own app and I use that reader exclusively with that bible. You can adjust the size of the notes that appear on the page, but I made them small and just tap the notes link to go to a page of notes, then use the back button to return to the text. It works for me and it was completely free.

Love this Bible
I've always been curious about this Bible when I would see it in bookstores (because of the unique title/cover), but I didn't want to buy it at full price because I hadn't heard my about it. When I found it on Amazon for a lower price, I bought a paperback version just to see what it had to offer. It is now one of my favorite Bibles for several reasons:- The ESV is my favorite translation. It retains the "dignity" of the King James Bible while still providing a clear, literal, version in modern English.- The study notes are wonderful. They're very similar to the ESV Student Study Bible, but not quite as extensive.- It has the great ESV concordance.- The articles by Christians all over the world are interesting and put thing in perspective regarding the global church.Along with these great features, there are many more. I loved it so much that I bought another one for my mother. She, too, loves it and has been asking if Crossways puts out a leather-bound copy. Great buy. Would pay full price if I had to buy another one.

Good Bible, good supplemental content
Like most Christians. I have bought lots of bibles mostly because I want the features and supplemental content, like articles and verse-by-verse commentary. As such, I would say this is a really good bible for beginner to mature levels, but to low for the advanced bible study.

So much extra stuff thats extremely helpful!!
Ok so the Bible came in and its great!! It uses language we use today and details each book in a nice summary and shows how the Bible relates to whats going on in the world today. Its extremely helpful and i highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in the Bible and learning more about Christ.

Very good study Bible, can’t beat free, Similar to the ESV study Bible
The best free kindle Bible. It is a semi-condensed study notes and everything is in black and white, otherwise it’s much like the ESV study Bible. It has very good book introductions, maps throughout, many charts, etc as is it described.Get a sample of the ESV study Bible and compare.

The Bible and so much more
This is exactly what all the good reviews are saying! Such a great insight into the bible. My only moan is that the pages are thin and it sometimes hurts my eyes when reading and been able to see throught the page (slightly). But isn't this the case with every Bible... very one I've seen anyway so it is only a small moan. Other than that this book is amazing!

Not simplified, just condensed and furnished for those who work in cross-cultural contexts
Excellent resource. It contains at least two-thirds of the verse notes from the original study bible, making it more compact. The introductions to each book examine the message in light of God's plan for the nations and where we find ourselves at this present time. There are helpful essays on various topics at the back.

A true blessing
With each hard copy purchased there are two on-line versions made available. One for the purchaser and one for someone in the world with a need for The Word. Thank you Crossway for an excellent Study Bible.

Great bible!!!
Great bible, spiritual and also informativ, great for deeper revelations of God and more information about history and general. Honestly best study bible I had so far. I enjoy reading it. The paper is thin, but this is to be expected when it's so full of wonderful information!I only can advice to buy this one if your English is more than "standard" school English.

Wonderful..It's easy to navigate. Short notes are good at each paragraph. There are references mentioned too wherever it is required.Although it's worth buying with some money, it is available for free :)

Great Bible, Miserable Production
I love the ESV Translation and Study Bible, but in this version the paper has such a low quality, that you can see through the printing on the other page. This results in a very bad reading experience. I will send back this copy and go for the regular study Bible instead.

Don't have a chance to use it much, but I read a few pages of it, and it is pretty good if you want to study the Bible in more depth.
