MSRFolding Camping Spoon

Really nice portable camping spoon

Surprisingly strong for what it is. Super light and long enough to be very versitle. I take my short wide mouth food thermos on winter bike, Snowshoe, hiking etc trips. The spoon is Long enough to get the soup or chili out of the bottom of the thermos, and then short enough folded up to drop it inside the thermos for washing when I get home. I have several of the folding spoorks and spoons.

Pretty sturdy. Great price. I don't recall their being any directions but I quickly realized it's easier to try and pry the locking mechanism open as you push the spoon closed with the other hand. I followed this process but also tried to pry open the tab on the opposite side from the first tab while holding pressure on the spoon and it pops right out of the 2 catch mechanisms and folds closed. Hard to explain but pretty easy once you do it smoothly one time. Decently long for mtn. house or other freeze dried camping bag meals.

I originally purchased (2) Light-My-Fire titanium sporks to go with my Snow Peak Solo system but the size and shape of the sporks just didn't seem to fit "well" anywhere in my pack. I loved 'em but they had to go! Came across these MSR folding utensils and ordered a spoon and knife. They are still too big to nest inside my Snow Peak pot (when there is a fuel cannister in there) but they are easy to store anywhere in my pack. Only 4 stars because the mechanism that keeps these utensils "locked" open will eventually wear down as its just a little plastic "nub" that is cleverly cast into the shape of the parts. I think these are neat, but definately have a shorter lifespan than I would prefer.

Update: I purchased a second spoon and it folds and ubfolds smoothly every time. I think my first one was a lemon, therefore I changed my rating from a 3 to a 5.Squeeze-to-fold mechanism didn't work. I couldsee the opening widening, but it wasn't enough to prevent a piece of plastic from breaking off upon applying pressure.I haven't even used it yet and it's broken yet "fixed" (now that it moves from extended mode to fold mode). I'm hoping it won't collapse when I actually go to use it.

Food is more likely to stick and stain plastic but if you are looking for a compact and light spoon at a great price this is it.

Great for eating freeze dried food out of a bag bit it’s a little flimsy.

Pretty light but with that being said and being plastic it is kinda flimsy especially when your mixing mashed potatoes.

Passt in jeden Kocher mit rein und ist einfach praktisch und lang genug für Freezer Bag Cooking.Besitze zwei davon und bisher (der ältere ist zwei Jahre und viele Trail-Tage alt) ist er (anders als diverse Primus Falt-Sporks) noch nicht gebrochen.

Wiegt 10g, ist sehr stabil und es isst sich sehr angenehm mit den Löffel. Auch umrühren von Suppe und Brei ist kein Problem. Der Klappmechanismus ist wirklich gut gelungen. Viel besser uns leichter als Titan-Klapplöffel. Mein neues Lieblingsteil.
