I think that they perfectly managed to keep the storyline interesting and not to crowded with guest stars. There is some real character development for Liz this season who for the first time starts out a season in a relationship. But of course it will not last. Having Matt Damon play her boyfriend was very good, but also led to him not being available for a lot of episodes. There was not really enough time for us to bond with him. He was in three episodes this season: the premiere, the live show, and the valentine's day episode. I wished they could have prolonged his stay. Jenna and Tracy remain career focused, and still get the best comedic material in the show. Jack and Avery welcome their daughter Liddy. And there is a very nice twist to their relationship by the end of the season. All in all this season left me wanting more, and you will not be disappointed by the quality and humor.

Gave in to the mob...
This was most likely one of the last great sit-coms on broadcast television, the jokes were witty, irreverent, and took risks, that can't be taken away. Unfortunately, the East Coast live episode has already been removed from the disk, which was cowardly in my opinion. It will fade from memory, Paul McCartney walking through the set, Tracey Morgan's Amos character ironically pleading for dignity to Jon Hamm's buffoonish Andy character had bite as well as hilarity, but it's gone now. The nuance of humor has disappeared in the new age and it's profoundly sad. I thought buying a hard copy of season 5 would retain the real East Coast live broadcast but was disappointed.

Liz Lemon Continues to Entertain
I discovered this show a couple of years ago, and while I am still behind on Season 6, the preceding seasons, especially Season 5, were laugh-out-loud funny! I never used to appreciate a lot of certain types of humor (adult humor), and now I understand why: I was too young! There's a reason there is a rating system! Anyway, to make it short, if you are already a fan of Tina Fey and Alex Baldwin, you will enjoy watching their hilarious exchanges and the escapades of everyone who works on "The Girlie Show". The timing of each line, gesture, and action is perfect. I don't know how they shoot these episodes without cracking up a hundred times, but of course these are professional actors and comedians, so they must have a method of keeping a straight face.

Great Show, Great Season
If you have never watched 30 Rock, I highly recommend watching it. It's a hilarious show that will make you laugh the entire episode. If you like the humor in Parks and Recreation or The Office, you will like this show. This is a good season and if you don't own it yet I recommend buying it. This is a good place to buy it, it's one of the cheapest places to get it (although it may be a bit cheaper on eBay if you are ok with it being used).

Still quite good
While it does at times suffer from the hipper than thou aspect of any Saturdan Night Live derived series or movie, 30 rock still does have its share of strong moments. The secondary characters are quite strong and even Kenneth does not drive me as crazy as h e used to. Tina Fey is perfect as Lz Lemon and directs a wonderful cast which this year has been augmented by a great number of guest stars. It is still one of the better comedies around.

30 Rock ROCKS!
Best show and it doesn't matter what season. I have never have experienced a show that NEVER takes itself seriously and it always enjoyable. The Office and Parks and Rec took themselves too seriously (Pam and Jim, for instance), Scrubs stayed on too long, and most others just fizzle out. This show did not. Funny, funny and more funny. You can criticize the actors and their lives off the set, but the show itself ROCKS, just like its name.

Love this show
Waited a long time to get season 5 due to the low ratings and it being my least favorite season, but a second viewing gave me better perspective, now it’s my absolute favorite season

Patchy run-in lets the season down.
I wouldn't normally add to all the reviews already on offer, but the season's conclusion left me just a little perplexed. I wound up for it by doing a re-run of the uniformly brilliant first four seasons, which may have been a mistake. Whilst things started off extremely well, this time around, it was the last quarter or so where the quality became patchier. My final conclusion? That it was a good thing i got this one at a truly bargain basement flash promotional price. However, this season still contains many more moments of brilliance. Hence the four stars. The fabulous, side-splitting "Live Show" episode alone probably makes this worth the admission price, to be honest, as Liz Lemon continues to deal with the numerous TGS nutjobs. Purchasers will notice that certain members of the support cast become margianalised, to the show's detriment. (I especially missed the deliciously catty interplay with the lovely Cerie, who hardly features.) Issues of pregnancy and Tracy Morgan's illness, as stated elsewhere, seem to be at the root of the season's somewhat rudderless conclusion. Almost as though the producers were desperate to get the season wrapped, using some rather contrived plotlines.Still worthy of purchase, as there are simply too many good things, but purchasers may wish to hold their fire until the price is really right. Meanwhile, i'm hoping that the next season will get us back on course. This is such a funny series, after all, with no need for a laughter track. Brilliantly written and acted, but season five isn't perhaps quite up to the standard of what came before. Even so, an iffy season of "30 Rock" still leaves most of the competition trailing in its wake.PS. A repeat viewing of the final six episodes was infinitely more satisfying. Whilst this season definitely wobbles, when Tracy disappears to "Africa", it remains very solid.

Get this if you want to have all episodes
two episodes from this season of 30 Rock (4 and 10) have been removed from all streaming services for inappropriate content. So if you want to get the full shows, with all the episodes, this is pretty much your only current alternative. Get it if you're a fan, before this set goes out of print.

oh no
there is a very noticable drop in form here and thats for the first time so while its almost understandable it is still a let down. The first four seasons for me stamped their authority by being zany and brilliant in equal measure, here some ideas fall on their face, some things dont work and a few episodes are just poor. There is still more good than bad episodes here overall and plenty of funny moments overall but the weaknesses are here and i hope it doesnt spill into season 6 which i am set to watch next

There’s not much more to say
Love 30 Rock, there’s not much more to say, not as great as the earlier series but when is it ever? I CAN TELL YOU WHEN! This is now my second favourite US comedy and THE BIG BANG is relegated third, and if you haven’t yet seen MODERN FAMILY and love 30 ROCK, I envy you because you have THREE series of THE BEST US COMEDY ever to look forward to!

Good viewing
Although not as sharp as earlier series, box 5 still shows some really excellent writing. Funny, witty and sarcastic it isn't the usual sappy blend of US comedy as it applies intelligence to the writing.
