Excellent DVD collection on a cheap DVD player
I worried about some reviews about poor quality of this collection before I bought this. I have a very inexpensive DVD player bought at a Target in the U.S. I worried about some review complaints, but finally bought this collection and hoped for the best. And this collection delivered! The packaging is as high a quality as any other collection---I don't know why someone complained about "cheap" packaging---I found that claim totally unrealistic. I am enjoying my youthful recollection of this series again and again, with no complaints. I have seen every DVD and find the quality is excellent. Buy this collection if you want to revisit The High Chaparral in all its drama, ethical challenges, beauty ,and familial relationships. It was well ahead of our time. Perhaps now we can appreciate the message it had to bring underlying the drama and entertainment. This was a drama about respect, inclusion and conciliation with different cultures. What a great collection of such a great story.a Manolito fan....)

Via Vision High Chaparral Complete Collection description
The box set of The High Chaparral with either a 26 or 27 marking on the front cover is not well described on Amazon, so I am submitting this detailed description. First the “26” or “27”. The page I ordered from had a picture with “26” on the box, but the box I received has “27” on it. The are a total of 27 DVDs in the box. All of the DVDs contain episodes only, no extras or “bonus” disc. My guess is the “26” was a printing error on an early production lot, as I cannot see any of the 27 discs being omitted to create a set of 26.The discs and boxes are marked with an Echelon Studios copyright notice and the logos of Via Vision Entertainment (VVE) and Madman, which are DVD and Blu-ray suppliers based in Australia. The box contains 4 season sets in plastic multi-disc holders. The discs are not stacked and any disc can be removed without removing another disc. The production codes are VVE1292 on the box, VVE1290 on the Season 1 set, VVE438 on the Season 2 set, VVE467 on the Season 3 set, VVE1291 on the Season 4 set. The DVD region is 0, meaning playable in all regions, and the video type is the old North American standard NTSC (720x480 29.97 fps with 8/9 PAR).The Season 1 set has 6 DVD9 discs and 2 DVD5 discs. The DVD9 discs each contain 4 episodes and the DVD5 discs each contain 2 episodes. The Season 2 and Season 3 sets each contain 7 DVD5 discs, 2 of which contain 3 episodes and 5 of which contain 4 episodes. The Season 4 set contains 5 DVD9 discs, 2 of which contain 3 episodes and 3 of which contain 4 episodes. Most quality DVD sets limit the number of hour-long episodes on a DVD9 to 4. This set has 10 DVD5 discs with 4 episodes each, which may suffer from compression issues. That’s 40 of 98 episodes. The individual discs are clearly labelled with season number and disc number within the season. The season 2, 3 and 4 discs have the episodes in correct original broadcast order. The season 1 discs do not. The disc labels that are displayed on a computer show that the season 1 discs were originally divided into a volume 1 and a volume 2. The labels on the discs themselves do not show that. Season 1 discs 1 and 8 are in correct broadcast order, but the other 6 have the episodes somewhat scrambled:S1_D1: 1-01, 1-02, 1-03, 1-04S1_D2: 1-07, 1-19, 1-05, 1-12S1_D3: 1-06, 1-10, 1-14, 1-17S1_D4: 1-11, 1-15S1_D5: 1-13, 1-09, 1-08, 1-16S1_D6: 1-20, 1-18, 1-26, 1-25S1_D7: 1-21, 1-22, 1-24, 1-23S1_D8: 1-27, 1-28

Happy memories.
I've been waiting for this since the birth of DVD. So many memories of my time in Germany back in the 80s when High Chaparral was resurrected by RTL or Sat 1 (I forget which) on Saturdays or Sundays afternoons. So far, quality excellent, upscaled to almost HD (except for episode 2 so far). The introduction of episode 1 being in German despite selecting the English soundtrack took me by surprise but wasn't an issue as I can understand German.

Great Value
This set is all in English, no German packaging or default language; the video quality is excellent, to my surprise. All 27 discs are here; the episodes are shown in the order, not of broadcast date, but story continuity, which is better. Lovely to see Manolito and all the other characters again. Well worth the cost.
