Meet Fran, the finest creation of the brilliant mad scientist, Dr. Madaraki. When the "good" doctor goes missing, leaving Fran alone in a house full of stitched-up monsters and scientific equipment, who better to take up his scalpel? With a combination of enthusiasm, skill, and heart that just can't be beat, Fran wields mad science with a sunny disposition to solve the problems of the lonely, downtrodden and lovelorn people who come through her door. But the people seeking help aren't always what they seem, and Fran's solutions are rarely what they expect...! Review: Creepy, gory, morally ambiguous, and fun. - Franken Fran kept showing up in my recommendations, and based on the positive reviews I decided to give it a shot. That was a good decision, as this turned out to be one of the more interesting manga I've read lately. As other reviews have noted, most of the stories in this volume are standalone, and many of the stories unfold as morality plays, not unlike old Twilight Zone episodes. Many stories involve Fran granting favors, and usually those favors do not exactly play out the way the petitioners had in mind. Fran also has a definite sense of right and wrong, and even her most gruesome acts can come across as logical from some point of view. If you are averse to gore, then you should probably pass on this particular manga. There's plenty of it, and the gross-out factor tends to be high. There is plenty of dismemberment and creepy things running around in Fran's lab, and the story with the cockroaches made me cringe a little bit. However, if you have a strong stomach and you enjoy morally ambiguous stories, I really can't recommend Franken Fran enough. Review: So, you think you have a strong stomach, eh? - After reading this series, I learned that I actually have a very strong stomach. After all, it ain't easy to hit a two inch bull's eye from fifty paces away with your projectile vomiting if you have a weak stomach! But seriously, this series is absolutely hilarious and if you like your humor to be dark and twisted with a generous helping of gore, then this is the perfect dish for you to enjoy! The artwork is magnificent, the story lines are superb and you can finish this with a warm and fuzzy feeling in your gut... Which means that Fran's anesthesia is wearing off and you are about to see the results of the operation that she conducted on you while you were distracted by reading this manga.

I've known about this manga for years and am so glad it's finally in the west.
This manga is great.....plain and simple it's just great. If you like horror, if you like character, if you just plain like manga i'd recommend this. A fresh new take on Frankenstien-style lore, with great art, a fun and compelling main character, and a creativity i've not seen in a long time. I'll give an example of that creativity from our heronine Miss Fran. How would you keep a severed head alive? Electricity? Some sort of life serum? Robot or cadaver body? Well i'll tell you this, you wouldnt hollow out some of the skull and stuff organs inside it. If a full recommendation from a stranger means anything from you, you have it.

Fran has a good heart, but says yes to pretty much any ...
Few manga out there combine body horror, social commentary, & light comedy together, let alone well. Fran has a good heart, but says yes to pretty much any surgery, no matter how bad of an idea it might be. this affords the series tons of chances for crazy surgery gone wrong. My only gripe would be the translation seems a LITTLE too still or literal for my taste. Fran often lengthens her words, & by writing them Loooooooong, it gets a bit distracting. They could have easily written them long~ instead. With a little more freedom of interpretation, the funny parts would have hit much better, but often times I had to rethink what was printed to get the joke. (while handling intestines with her 6 arms she attached to make surgery better) Literal Translation: "He said I turn people into monsters. Don't you think that's mean~?" Seven seas Translation: Can you believe the way he TALKED to me? Wasn't he just the WOOOOORST? They're both generally the same, but one reads much better. Print quality is good, but could have been a little larger. If you can't read Japanese, this is a great deal since it combines two volumes into a single book.

don't judge by the cover
one of my all time favourite mangas and i'm so happy it's been printed! it looks great in book form. each chapter tells a new story all of which are an entertaining blend of horror and comedy. the art is gruesome but almost cute at times, and if you're worried about fanservice the only place you'll find it is on the cover. fran is adorable despite accidentally mutilating most of her patients, and she's often paired with her cat with a human head, anxiety-ridden living weapon of a sister, and a girl wrapped head to toe with bandages who acts as fran's walking organ/blood storage unit (you know, for emergency transplants). it's as weird as it sounds and is an overall great series well worth reading.

Horror manga with more than guts and blood.
Franken fran is easily one of my favorite manga, loaded with dark humor, body horror and social criticism, it's more than guts and blood. It takes some of the typical tropes commonly seen in media such as anime and manga and twists them into something creepy that can be terrifying but at the same time hialrious.

Spicy shenanigans ahead!
The stories are getting more... visceral in this volume! With the new addition of Fran's little sister, we get to see a whole new plethora of macabre medicine at work.

Irreverente y Divertido

Gloriously grotesque!
Body horror as only the Japanese can do it, far outstripping anything even David Cronenberg could ever come up with back in his horror heyday. The title character is the beautiful blond daughter/Frankenstein-style creation of a mad scientist who has gone missing, leaving her in charge of his laboratory and all of the other bizarre beings he has created there, the closest to anything approaching normal being a cat with a human head who is Fran's best friend and confidante. Fran has a good heart (insert joke here...) and only wants to use her super-genius surgical skills to help mankind. Unfortunately her definition of "help" is not the same as that of any sane member of the human race, and the results of her well-intentioned experiments are never less than horrifying. And don't let the sexy cover fool you. While there is more than a fair bit of nudity in these B&W pages, it is more of the naked and afraid variety where someone is about to be transformed into a hideous monstrosity of science if they haven't been already. Definitely not for children despite the anime eyes (which should be pretty darn obvious anyway...) but for fans of extreme horror it is well worth checking out. Highly recommended!

No vale la pena por el precio
La historia es muy buena, pero la edición me pareció de muy baja calidad para el costo que tiene.

I like it - it's a little unusual for a book - not sure how to describe the main character - but it is quite funny.
