The security is not air tight but enough to prevent the crime of opportunity. If they want into the truck bed they will get in. My 2014 GMC Sierra has plastic caps on the tailgate and bed rails, so it's not very easy to shut the cover with the tailgate already closed. Better to shut the cover and slam the tailgate shut after...I see wear and tear coming after doing that for a while. The element seal doesn't keep "all" the water out but it works pretty well.
