Dr. Martens Men's Wonder Balsam 85ml, No Color, One Size

I’ve been using the Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam on several pairs of leather boots and I’m really impressed with how well it works. It noticeably improves the look of the leather by bringing out a richer, deeper color, without making it too shiny. The functionality is spot-on—it softens stiff leather, adds a subtle waterproof layer, and helps prevent cracking. The build quality of the balm itself feels premium, and the tin is compact but lasts longer than expected. After applying it, the leather feels much softer and more supple, and the boots look refreshed without losing their rugged charm. A must-have if you want to preserve both the look and durability of your leather footwear.

This provided excellent coverage to smooth and polish my old Ariat mules. Photos show before (left shoe) and after, then both shoes treated. The shoe on the right has significant cracks and wear, but this product filled them in to some extent and improved the appearance. My only negative comment would be about the packaging. The tin of this was delivered in a very big box, no packing material around it. A much smaller box could have been used. The tin was a bit dented on top, and in a few tiny places the paint on the top was scuffed off. The date stamp on the side is from 2022, 3 years ago. Odd. In any case, the product works great, so I am satisfied, just a bit mystified.

High quality, goes on smoothly.

Bought this to help soften a new pair of doc martens. It works! I slathered it on the inside and and outside of the shoe and it softened the leather perfectly. Also used to shine up some older shoes I have and it made them look like new!

Honestly, I didn’t even know I was supposed to condition my Dr. Marten boots every month. I only discovered this product as I was getting ready for another Canadian winter and remembered my boots weren’t looking or functioning as good as the day I bought them—which was sometime in the 2010s. Only thing I have to say is that it does what you expect! I followed the video procedure of coating my boots from the official Dr. Marten’s website, but bought the product directly from Amazon since I couldn’t be bothered to purchase a big order just for free shipping when I only intended to try this product. I know other reviews have stated that there could be more product if not for the sponge taking up half the container, which I do agree could be packaged differently to give customers more product for their money. However, I used a generous amount on my boots and I’m pretty sure it barely made a dent. Take it with a grain of salt, I only used this once and haven’t yet needed to re-apply the coating per the 1-month recommendation. Either way, it would be nice to have more for something we’d have to use frequently. I did note that the sponge applicator was a bit difficult to grasp (with gloves) while rubbing it on the boots since it’s a bit small, but I think any old kitchen or thick sponge can do just as well with a bit more elbow grease. Aside from the quantity, I’m happy to say that it really did revive the old and parched leather. I hadn’t noticed how matte the leather became until I saw the side-by-side comparison!! I guess that’s why I began having issues with my boots no longer being as weather-proof, since there was no barrier between the water/snow/salt. I considered purchasing new boots to replace these ones but quickly realized that all it needed was some TLC with the Wonder Balsam. Glad to have made my purchase, and will be relying on this to keep my boots going for many more years to come.
