Smart Girls, Smart Choices: Avoiding the 10 Biggest Mistakes Young Women Make

The Best Book I've Read
Five stars are not enough for this book. This is one of those books that if you judged other books by it, no other book would be able to receive 5 stars. This book is "the best of the best", awesome, wonderful, magnificent, beautiful, encouraging, heart-healing; I think you get the point. Please beware that my review of this book will not do it justice, as I know of no way to do that. This book is simply so good, that there is no way I can exclaim it.Also, this book is geared toward "young adult girls", as in college age. I am far from that, but I still gained so much from this book. Even if you are like me, and way past that "straight out of high school, and into college" age, this book can still help you. This book talks about 10 common mistakes that young women make, and how to avoid/correct them. Even if you are old, like me, it's never too late to change and correct your mistakes, or to be encouraged. And even if you are a male, you can still read it, because males make mistakes, also, and this can help them to get on the right path. So what I'm saying is, even though this book is for young adult women, anybody, of any age or gender, can benefit from it.This book is a Christian book, and instructs and encourages you how to be "God's Girl". This book has so much good stuff in it, I don't know where to start. Now that I've read it, I want each of my daughters to read it. I doubt if my son will read it, though. This book gives so much encouragement, and Bible scriptures to back it up. It gives the straight-forward truth. It is hard for me to believe it was written by a college student (where did she find the time and energy?) and it turned out so good. I looked her up on the Internet, and it looks like she is now a dentist. After reading her book, it appears that she is a God-girl, and I would have loved to have had her as a friend back in my young days, and even now! There is so much good stuff, and I can't give you all the examples, or this review would be way too long. This book is so awesome, and it gave me so much encouragement. Here are a few examples: (Maybe not her exact words, but the point is obvious.)We don't have to be insecure or jealous of anybody, because God made us exactly like He wanted us to be.It is not only okay to have boundaries, but also necessary. It is okay to say no.It is okay to have fun and laugh. (I personally love fairs and Halloween joke books. These are not mentioned in this book - I just thought I'd share with you what I like. I also love mini-golf, bumper cars, and merry-go-rounds. I also love parks. I also love just playing with my granddaughter - that tells you I'm way older than Megan or the intended reader audience.)We don't need to have other people's approval. We shouldn't be arrogant. We should trust and rely on God to give us Godly friends and boyfriends to hang out with.We should trust in God for our future, as He is in control of our lives, and He has great plans for our lives.Read the story starting on page 157. That is enough to bring, not only realization, but also tears. So many of us live as if God doesn't matter, and don't appreciate Jesus dying on the cross, how he bought us with a very high price, but we take it for granted. Like the slave girl we'd still be in bondage; therefore, we should have the same attitude as she did. These are only a few examples (there are many more), but all in all, this book sums up the fact that only God can fill our voids, our needs, and He is all we really need to live for. We don't have to worry about what other people think, and other people cannot fill our voids or needs. Yes, God gives us Godly friends, but only God Himself can fill voids. And God's girl is positive, knows how to have fun, and does good handling stress. Negative people stress me out. I love Godly, positive people. If you are "old" like me, after reading this book, you might see some of the mistakes you made, but it is not too late to change. This book offers encouragement.Yes, all we really need is God. He will provide all our needs.I highly recommend this book. And especially if you have a daughter, this is the best gift you could give her, no matter how old she is. Hopefully you'll read it for yourself, also. I cannot sing the praises enough for this book.Megan, let's go have a cappucino and talk, my friend!

*A Must Read*
At my church, I currently assist in running a Girls Life group focusing on young adult women. We are using this book to open discussion on many issues facing young women today. The girls who attend the group are excited about the topics discussed. The book covers subjects like being controlled by emotions, crazy for love, and hanging out with the wrong crowd. As an adult leader, I am also able to relate to these subjects and add my own personal stories.Being the mother of a young daughter, I hope to use this book to discuss these same issues with her. In today's soceity, I welcome anything that will help me to shape my girls into becoming Wonderful Christian Women!

Great for college students also!
I'm a junior at UNC Chapel Hill and this book has been an incredible guide for me over the past 3 years. It was given to me as a gift Freshman year and I just bought it for three freshman girls in my bible study so that we can do a weekly study of it. All of the issues covered in the book are so relevant for middle school girls all the way through college aged young women! Megan Clinton does an awesome job of combining scripture, humor, personal anecdotes, and biblically minded insights in this must-read book.
