"Shut Up, You Earth Colony Nitwit!"...
GALAXINA (1980) is set in the year 3008, when a police patrol has been established to control the heavy traffic in... spaaaace! Spaceship Infinity is such a ship, piloted by Captain Cornelius Butt (Avery Schreiber). It's just another routine patrol, until an unknown craft soars past their speed trap. The captain of the vagrant vessel is the mysterious Ordric. He seems to be up to something, but what? Otherwise, life is pretty dull aboard the Infinity. Only Galaxina (Dorothy Stratten), the ship's robot, livens up the place. Then, a strange egg is eaten by Captain Butt, causing him to emit a lizard-like creature from his mouth! Meanwhile, Sergeant Thor (Stephen Macht) has fallen in love w/ Galaxina, and is willing to risk electrocution, in order to touch her! Suddenly, a mission is given to Butt and company, to go in search of the Blue Star crystal. But first, a visit to the local space brothel. Complete oddness follows. Sort of a cross between the bar scene in STAR WARS, a western, and a very bad night at Studio 54. Later, as the crew are put into cryosleep, the lizard-monster creeps about like the rubber puppet it is. Galaxina is bored -I know the feeling!- flying around alone. She watches TV, which is just as insipid as it was a thousand years earlier! More dullness happens. Lots of dullness. Mega-dullness! Hey! Ordric has returned! Maybe he'll blow the Infinity to smithereens! Nope, just more dullness. My god, this is terrible! At least we get to watch Galaxina walk around an old ghost town set. Another STAR WARS saloon parody occurs. Here, she meets Mr. Spot and has a showdown w/ Ordric. Actually, this is the funniest part of the movie, which isn't saying much! Once this sequence is over, it's back to the abyss of awfulness. Not even the hilarious space bikers can save this slab of interstellar ineptitude! I'm not kidding! This is torture! Annnd, then, like a blessed miracle from some celestial orb, it's over! Even Dorothy Stratten devotees will find little here to enjoy. Where's the Tylenol??!...

"Two Stars Is Being Gracious" - My Wife
So when I was a kid, me and the two neighbor boys fell prey to the advertising on this film, which was essentially, "See a p*rn star be s*xy in a great comedy!" None of us were old enough to get in without an adult accompanying us, so the neighbor boys' (we were 13, 14, and 15) mother drove us to the theater and swore that we were all her sons (I wasn't.) and that we wanted to see the movie, but she didn't. The ticket booth sold us the tickets and we went in.Within 20 minutes of the movie, we had unanimously decided that the movie's advertising was fraudulent and that it was somewhere in the bottom ten movies any of us had ever seen. We walked out. It is one of only two movies that I have walked out on in my life (the other one was not because of the movie, but because I was dating a public school teacher who acted like one). We asked to see the manager and demanded our money back. Then we used our money to call their mom and spent our time playing video games until she arrived. When my wife and I saw this on prime, we talked about it and decied to watch it to see if my much more mature mind could appreciate it today.Turns out, this is one of those moments when 13-15 year-olds have a lot of wisdom. The movie is not a total waste. There are individual moments of humor that are genuinely funny. The problem is the space between those moments. The storyline is just not competently written, and will not bear the moments between the funny parts. The script is, frankly, a complete disaster. There are a couple of moments when I was hopeful that the story would take a turn for the better (like at the "Human Restaurant"), but the story seems to be just a series of disjointed scenes that really do not allow for character or plot development. It doesn't even work as a "Scary Movie" sort of intentionally-disjoined parody. If you are a big fan of Dorothy Stratton, you probably will want to watch this movie just as a historical relic. Everyone else should spend their time doing something more profitable, like learning Latin or watching paint dry.

Pretty bad but thats part of its charm...
This tongue-in-cheek movie was not very good even by 1980 standards. But it did have a few funny one-liners. It was the style then for a comedy to make fart jokes or sex jokes that were pretty crass. Nowadays probably the political incorrectness wouldn't go over as well.It might well have become just another failed 1980s scifi comedy except for one thing. It is now considered a scifi comedy classic. But mostly because the gorgeous robot was 20 year old Playmate of the Year, Dorothy Stratten. She was expected to be a real major star. A few months later, her estranged husband murdered her by shooting her with his shotgun, raped and further mutilated her corpse and turned the shotgun on himself and committed suicide. You can read her biographies online if you would like to know more about her. Its been incorrectly stated here that Galaxina was her last movie. Not true. She had only a few Movie and TV appearances because she died at 20 years old. This movie became popular almost overnight as everyone wanted to know who this beautiful but tragic actress was. It's doubtful this movie would have nearly the cult following it enjoys today without DS.There were some costars who became quite famous in their own way too. Stephen Macht, Avery Schreiber, Rhonda Shear to name a few had success after this movie. If you're looking for some "pull my finger" kind of comedy this could give you a few laughs. If your looking for serious scifi or action, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. Its pretty tame sexual innuendos wouldn't be anything a teen wouldn't be familiar with but you might not want to let kids watch it. I wouldn't recommend it but can say scifi or comedy 1980s buffs should see it at least once. Its now considered a classic.

Still awesome!
I did think it was a good film. But nothing that I expected it to be.

nettes Filmchen
