A diverse group of aspiring performers pursue fame and stardom in L.A. Moving into an apartment-style motel for displaced dreamers, each dubbed "most likely to succeed," they all face the challenges and opportunities of a lifetime. But it's not as easy as it looks. For every bona fide starlet, there are countless cocktail waitresses. For every true rock star, there are hundreds of street performers on the pier. For every comedian with a hit sitcom, there are dozens of guys cracking jokes while pouring your coffee. In L.A., life can change in the blink of an eye. If they work hard enough, and stay long enough, they know someone's gonna make it...the question is: who? Review: A hidden gem - I just can't believe that year after year great shows keep getting cancelled by networks. "The L.A. Complex" delivers everything anyone could want in a drama: sex, secrets, lies, twists and an appealing cast. The plot is pretty easy to follow, and it easily becomes an addiction after watching the first two or three episodes. Jewel Staite as Raquel was always my favorite. I think she's one of the best canadian actresses on TV, and her talent is just amazing. The storylines (a little bit crazy), manage to stay true to reality, and you get to understand and love the characters after a few episodes (which is really strange for me to love and care for characters so fast). It's such a shame that nobody saw this show when it came out on TV, because it would had been a hit if it had gotten the right promotion or marketing, and I know that the ones who saw this show when it aired know what I'm talking about; it had everything to be everyone's obsession. I always called it everything that Melrose Place: The DVD Edition (4 Discs) never was. I'm glad it's coming out on DVD! I wasn't expecting such a low rated show (but still good) coming out on DVD, but I'm buying it when it comes out. If you're looking for a great new refreshing TV series, you'll fall in love with "The L.A. Complex". At least the fans now will have this amazing show on their collections. I'm surely watching the whole series again when I get this set. UPDATE: Now that I got the DVD, I can tell you it's a decent-ish relase. It doesn't have close captions or english subtitles, and the bonus features are just deleted scenes, audio commentaries (for the pilot and the last episode) and bloopers. The episodes are on widescreen, and the audio is on 2.0 which is a shame because when it aired it had 5.1 audio. The video is great, very clear. Review: A GREAT series; gone TOO SOON!!! - I was THRILLED to find this underrated; not given enough of a chance; t.v. series. I absolutely LOVED this show and couldn't be happier with this collection. Every episode is there (I can always leave or take extras, so I can't really comment on them), I really like the cover art work & as I said before, this series was NOT given enough of a chance to find it's audience. The CW had a bunch of hype leading up to the series, then it debuted on one night & then was switched to it's "new" night (always the kiss of death for a t.v. show), then it went on "hiatus" (twice, if I remember correctly) & when it came back, it was on a DIFFERENT night then it had been on before. When will networks learn that you CAN'T keep moving a series around & expect it to find a following.......pick a night, give it a FAIR chance (order more then 3 or 6 episodes) & then see where you are with it AFTER you air the episodes ordered. Thanks for putting together this series for me to be able to enjoy whenever I want, even though I won't get to see what happened to the characters I invested in because the network got "nervous" & didn't give this series the chance it deserved!!!!

Great series, stuffed a bit tightly into three discs
"The LA Complex" was the type of series that was a critical darling, but a misfire with the public. Perhaps it looked too much like "Melrose Place", but in truth, the show was anything but. I enjoyed virtually every episode, many of which I did my best to see live on the air on the CW. This DVD set collects all 19 episodes, but in the interest of economy (remember, this was unfortunately one of the lowest rated dramas in broadcast TV history), it squeezes 6 or 7 episodes - 43 minutes each - onto each disc, resulting in heavy compression artifacts. There are deleted scenes and bloopers wedged in as well, on disc 3, as well as a commentary by show creator Martin Gero on the pilot and the finale. I'm satisfied with my purchase - I just wish circumstances were better for a grander presentation.

Great show that nobody found
A couple of years ago a friend told me about this show and the steamy closet gay rapper from the hood. I grew to love all of the story lines and the characters. A lot of great performances and great writing. Edgier than a lot of other CW shows, maybe the typical CW viewer found it too real or heavy. But I loved it. A lot of great inter-weaving of characters and story lines. Like the actress who starts attending AA to network but later develops a drinking problem, and a struggling comedian whose lame material kills with the kiddie crowd. And to be honest, the closet gay rapper story line was sexy, steamy AND ground-breaking, and almost uncomfortably violent. I miss the little guy who went back to Canada. Sigh. As the great old Hollywood saying goes, "when vomit hits the piano, the audition is over." Which is to say the young actress character's story was hilariously discouraging. A must see for the in crowd.

Pretty good
It was pretty good, I just wish it hadn't ended so quickly so they could come up with more story lines

Why this series was canx and never been re-picked up with another studio, I'll never know. Perfect example of a great written and acted show that get's canned within it's first season. Thousands of ppl wrote to MTV to have it renewed but no...they couldn't see a good thing in front of them. What a waste of good talent all around. Get this series...You'll love it!
