Excellent Compact and Functional Hood but Price is Steep
This is a somewhat tough item to review. On one hand it is unique, probably difficult to fabricate on your own, well made, and functional but on the other hand it is a small metal lens hood that cost $70.I use the Zeiss 24f1.8 on my A6500 a lot. It is a fantastic lens that is perfect for general photography. The fast aperture is great for the bokeh or low light situations, the Zeiss optics make for great image quality with superb color and contrast, and it is a fairly compact lens for a somewhat compact camera. This lens sees more time on my camera than any other lens and so I wanted a more convenient hood to use with it. The hood that came with the lens is a good quality hood and looks like it combines lightweight metals and high quality plastics, but it is bigger and bulkier than this new hood. What I like about this hood is that it is thoughtfully designed, easy to leave on the camera, and very functional. While the Zeiss lenses are already very good in direct light on the lens, this hood does actually help and compliments the strengths and accounts for the minor weaknesses of the 24f1.8. It seems to be made of a decent quality aluminum and keeps the bulk and the weight down. While it is not very deep it will keep the sun out of the lens a bit while actually offering decent protection to the lens itself.I appreciate that the inner portion of the hood is painted in matte black instead of being painted entirely in the glossier brushed metal black that is on the outside to keep help absorb the light instead of bouncing it into the lens. It is design choices like these that give me a little more confidence in the product and the asking price. Finally, I didn’t really want to use this as a pro for the hood but the design looks nice and is somewhat stylish. The angles and the cutouts are very reminiscent of maybe a Leica hood or something more professional or expensive. This really shouldn’t be a determinant in buying the hood but fortunately there are other good reasons to use this hood, the main one being that it works. Is it worth $70? No. I don’t think so. Not when my 24f1.8 came with a functional hood. I’d say that it is definitely a much better hood than the stock hood. It is lightweight, compact, well made, thoughtfully designed, and very functional but is it $70? There is some value in the fact that it is unique and made for my lens and there really aren’t other options that I’ve seen. There is enough value that I enjoy it and I am going to keep it and so if the asking price doesn’t bother you, then don’t hesitate to get it because it’s great. I can recommend this as a great hood for your 24f1.8 but you’ll have to decide if that’s worth $70 to you. I can give the product 5 stars but that won't speak to the price in this case.

Fits most Sony E-Mount (49mm Thread) lenses
Was getting tired of stowing my 35mm F2.8 and 55mm F1.8 Lens hoods when I didn't need them (most of the time). This fits both lenses without any issue. Plus my 24mm too, which I still have on hand. For the most part I don't end up using my hoods anyways, as I hardly ever have any Flare issues with the Zeiss optics, or Sony's for that matter, so its hard to comment on how effective it is. But interms of usefulness, build, weight this is pretty handy. Its nice an low profile too, so easy to store in my camera bag.Price wise its a bit steep, and I'd say its really worth $40 max. Even so, 5 stars from me.To pre-empt some questions:Yes it fits the FE 35mm, FE 55mm and the 24mm Z (APS-C).Yes my slim Sony CZ Polarizors fit on with the hood (but can't turn them)Yes the 49mm Sony Lens caps fit with the hood on (but you'd need the inner-pinch type, which I think all the Sony lenses have now)Yes you can use the Lens cap and Polarizor at the same time as the hoodYes it also fits on the 50mm f1.8 (APS-C), the 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 (APS-C), the 20mm F2.8 (APS-C)No it doesn't fit on the 35mm f1.8 OSS (APS-C) lens.. well kinda, but doesn't click in place and feels forced, so I'd advise against itNo you cannot reverse the hood while on the lenses (obviously)Hope that helps others.

Beautiful lens hood
i just received this lens hood and immediately fixed in onto my Sony/Zeiss FE 35mm f2.8 and also tried it on my FE 55mm f1.8.Beautiful craftsmanship with better fit then the original ones that came with both mentioned above lenses.Bit pricey at $50 but worth it in my opinion and honestly i buy my glass (lenses) to keep them for years so why not "dress" them up nicely. This is my 35mm f2.8 mounted on A7M2 body.Very happy with this purchase.

So much better than the factory original Sony lens hood!
Great product! This is so much sturdier than the Sony lens hood (Sony lens hood was bumped somewhere and fell off...never to be seen again). that comes with the Sony/Zeiss FE 35mm f/2.8 lens. This lens hood stays on, protects the lens and shields the lens from the sun. Very happy!!

A beautiful stylish but functional lense hood that makes any lense ...
A beautiful stylish but functional lense hood that makes any lense look fantastic. I use it on my Sony FE f2.8 35mm lense whic everyone now mistakes for a classic Leica lense.

Looks great, fits pretty well.
Very well made although it is possible to turn the hood past the bayonet lock. Don't be over-zealous mounting it on the lens.
