## Overview

The ScanTool OBDLink MX Wi-Fi is a compact, professional-grade OBD-II adapter that transforms your smartphone, tablet, or PC into a powerful automotive diagnostic tool. Compatible with all 1996+ OBD-II vehicles (excluding hybrids and EVs), it offers wireless Wi-Fi connectivity with secure WPA2 encryption and a BatterySaver sleep mode to prevent battery drain. ## Description

OBDLink MX Wi-Fi is a pocket-size Wi-Fi OBD-II adapter for all OBD-II compliant vehicles (except hybrid or electric vehicles). It can be used as a diagnostic scan tool, trip computer, logger, and real-time performance monitor. Its BatterySaver sleep mode allows the adapter to stay plugged in continually, without draining the vehicle’s battery. OBDLink MX Wi-Fi is the only OBD-II adapter that gives you the flexibility to easily connect directly to your iPhone or iPad, or to an existing Wi-Fi network. MX Wi-Fi features WPA2 with AES encryption, a sensible precaution to keep hackers from accessing your car's network. MX’s support of the de facto standard ELM327 command set, makes it compatible with tons of third-party OBD software and mobile apps. OBDwiz and OBDLink app, included with OBDLink MX, allow you to: Turn off the check engine light, and erase stored diagnostic information Read and erase stored, pending, and permanent trouble codes (both generic and manufacturer-specific) Access freeze frame information Display, graph, and log 90+ real-time parameters Create custom digital dashboards Measure and display fuel economy.

Review: Setup was pretty straight forwards - Compact OBD2 device which fit snug out-of-sight in the OBD2 socket under dash. Connecting this directly (peer-to-peer) with your device's WiFi you will lose the option to get an Internet connection, however you do get the option to connect the OBDLink MX first to a mobile hotspot or a wireless router (via the OBDLink MX's local web settings). Setup was pretty straight forwards: 1. Download OBDLink App via ScanTool's website or AppStore, select and setup your car profile settings; 2. Plug OBDLink into ODB2 socket and switch ignition key to ACC; 3. Hold setup button on OBDLink; 4. Turn on WiFi on phone/device, find and connect to "OBDLink MX", and input pass code; 5. Start OBDLink App and connect. Downloaded 3rd party app called "DashCommand" from AppStore for a small fee, slightly buggy with intermittent connection issues to ODBLink MX (connection dropping out frequently and popup messages asking to enable bluetooth). The default OBDLink app is pretty reliable, the only connection issue (happened once) was my phone's WiFi connection dropped off "OBDLink MX" and connected another WiFi connection/hotspot, which meant the connection on OBDLink MX must have dropped or the device auto rebooted for some unknown reason.
Review: OBDLink MX - Works as advertised, great value, happy customer. - Purchased the WIFI version to compensate for a lack of gauges in my turbocharged MINI Cooper. Couldn't be happier with the purchase. Setup and configuration was quick and painless. The corresponding app (iOS for me) connects to the device quickly and, once connected, data is displayed in the app in real-time (zero noticeable delay or 'latency'). While I primarily use the OBDLink MX to display engine data, the app allows you to access a large amount of status related data and engine codes with the click of a button. Note: There are a number of Bluetooth and WIFI devices on the market. However, my tuner recommended this specific unit as being most compatible with the iPhone and iOS. I'm glad he did as I've had zero problems. Pros: Ease of Setup, Device Quality, App Features, Real-time Data from Device to App, Price (great value) Cons: None

### ⭐ Will not work with a Nexxus 6 in a stable manner. Not worth the frustration.
*by T***E on November 4, 2016*

I was so looking forward to this after reading all the good reviews. Once it arrived, went straight out and tried to tap into my truck. No matter what I tried, the damn thing would not connect to my phone. I have an ipad, so thought I'd try that to see if it was maybe defective or an Android issue. Connected like clockwork on the ipad. Used the app, and worked great via ios. Hmm .. I'll try my andriod tablet to see if it's possible a Nexxus thing. Connected fine via tablet and software worked fine. WTF? So tried again with phone and after several fails, it connected. Well, maybe a firmware upgrade happened behind the scenes? I'm not sure, but was satisfied for the time being. Few days later took to another car to reset the code and it all worked great. Past tense though, as now when I try to connect back to my truck, takes forever to connect, then once it does, the software says I have to register to continue to use it. I can't upgrade the app unless it's connected it seems which it won't do as it immediately disconnects after telling me to register. It's just a large circle jerk. Whoever designed the workflow of this item along with it's companion app, is a moron. My last scantool purchase.
