Awesome book to learn more about career counseling
Going in I was scared because I read so many awful reviews for this book but I actually really enjoyed it. It is kinda dry so text to speech was my buddy. It made reading it so much easier

I Loved this book!!
This was an excellent book. I used it for a Career Counseling course in Graduate School. I will use this book throughout the rest of my schooling. I will be able to use it as a study guide for my CPCE and NCE exam, as well as use it as a reference in my career as a school counselor. They have many useful appendices in the back of the book.

Poorly written and unreliable
I appreciated some of the content about cultural factors and developmental concerns. However, the book is poorly-written, and, as others have said, very difficult to follow at times. The writing quality is definitely below that of most of my other textbooks. It seems as if the book were never truly proof-read. I kept encountering sentence fragments that didn't make sense, and I had to infer what the author was trying to say.Even worse, I came across this statement on page 372: "Interestingly, parenting style that is less authoritative, strongly influences teenagers to be less susceptible to peer pressure (Mounts & Steinberg, 1995)." This struck me as unlikely, since authoritative parenting is known to be beneficial in helping kids develop a strong identity and sense of values. I found the source article, and it said that kids with authoritative parents are more likely to be influenced by peers who value high school achievement (beneficial peer influence), but less likely to be influenced by peers who are using drugs. Hence, the textbook is extremely misleading in its use of this source (possibly due to poor writing/proof-reading, rather than genuine misuse). But if I (as a graduate student, not a professor) can find informational errors in this text, then it makes me wonder what else is misconstrued. I'm not impressed. For $150, you'd expect to get a better product!

Grad School Purchase
Got here so quickly! I had no problems whatsoever with the book, the book cover was just a little wrinkled, but I'm sure that's just from traveling. The book on the inside, the pages are clean and crisp. I will happily recommend them to other buyers! Thank you!!

The information in this book changed my opinion of career counseling as a foundation for mental health counseling from a holistic approach. Assessments in this book and the accompanying Using Assessment Results for Career Development book are invaluable together.
