Miniature sewing projects with a Japanese style
This book would suit those seeking a range of little projects that nevertheless give a great deal of satisfaction when completed. The pattern set for each object takes no more than a single page so they are quite small. They are all in a Japanese style and are essentially decorative with a nominal use implied in their names. They would make a very personal small gift to a close friend. The book is very well illustrated and a pleasure to own. Instructions are clear but don't expect to complete each project in just a couple of hours. If you have not yet purchased "Omiyage : Handmade Gifts from Fabric in the Japanese Tradition" by the same author that might be a better first choice.

Beautiful creations, but...
Kumiko is a master of her craft and her book shows some of her cutest work. While the patterns are fairly simple. she leaves out important hints that make recreating her projects difficult if you aren't paying attention. Pay close attention to the weight and type of fabric that she uses but does not mention in her directions. If you use a heavier fabric than what she used, you may need to adjust the pattern to make it work. I wouldn't recommend this for a complete beginning sewer. Otherwise this is a great book full of fun projects.

looks beautiful, but smells
good condition except for the smell of mildew, which I am super allergic to, I will let it sit out a while. updating to add that my husband says it smells of book chemicals not mildew, in any case we will leave it out for a while and let it fade. I mention because seller rated the condition as very good and in my opinion that includes no or faint 'old book smell' .

Cute!
I love the book, and love making all the cute things in it. However, the first time I made the fish, her instructions referred to part C (or maybe D?)of the fish, and the template for the part was nowhere to be found. I was able to make my own template, but it was irritating.

Excellent Source for a 1ST time Crafter"Kokoro noTe by Kumiko Sudo an Amazon Purchase
As a 75yr.old. Beginning Crafter, I found Kokoro no Te: Handmade Treasures from the Heart excellent. It has been more than 50 years that I have done any sewing whatsoever and this book turned out being a Godsend for me. Inside of a few short weeks I have turned out nifty items that will be presents for friends and family members Christmas and other special occasions.

If you are looking for something a little different...this might be your book!
This book offered a much different look at gift giving than the traditional "Americanized" version. I have thoroughly enjoyed looking through the book, picking out projects and sifting through my treasure trove of special fabrics...Can't wait to get started making some gifts for the people I love in my life!

Impractical pleasures to treasure
The contents of this book start off with Purses Totes and Keepsakes - but you won't be putting your shopping into any of these. All of the designs in the book are shown full size at the back -the book is about 8 inches square and nothing is bigger than your handspread.Kumiko Sudo is one of my very favourite fabric artists - her delightful gifts are so beautiful and original, none can be truly reproduced as they appear in the book simply because you use your own choice of fabrics, this means your own work becomes truly original and unique. The methods she uses actually work, her instructions are easy to follow and involve simple hand stitches, and make it such a joy to sit by a fire in a comfy chair on a cold wintry day making a beautiful item for a friend - Kokoro no Te means handmade treasures from the heart and there are certainly some beauties in here. Some of my favourites are - Cherry booklet - this is a leaf shaped booklet with fabric covers, it's decorated with a colourful bunch of beaded cherries and meant to be used as a needle case, a Kara Lily caddy is a wonderful circular pocket decorated with lily flower heads and just the right size to hold a CD gift (maybe one with family photos on) to turn this into a real keepsake. The Bird of Paradise purse (large purse, or small clutch bag) is another favourite but its not one into which you can stuff just anything - it's pretty flat so has limited uses, but so lovely I keep one in my regular bag to hold my comb, mirror and credit card. Finally I love the Dragonfly Cache - ideal for making a wonderful holder for a lavender bag to be hung from a door handle or coat hanger, or even to decorate a home made tote - one of the big ones we're more familiar with! Kumiko Sudo's books are superbly presented, full of clear colour plates and wonderful words - treasures in themselves. This book with 30 projects is no less delightful than her other treasures. I love it.
