highly rated for a reason
I used these to put up about 1200 feet of sheep and goat fencing and they were worth the hype. I cut through high tensile fencing and barbed wire with ease.

Likely the best bolt cutter I've owned in my lifetime.
Bluntly put, up until last week I had not had much experience with bolt cutters and knew limited information about them as well. Knipex certainly is the the number one company to purchase mini bolt cutters that are 8 inches as well.Wow, these Knipex bolt cutters are terrific and are also 100% made in Germany as well. I've cut several types of screws with this and I even have cut a wide variety of metal with as well. Nothing too thick, but they did an exceptional job. I really like the fact that the cuts are even virtually every time. Provided though one uses these bolt cutters at an 90 degree angle precisely. Essentially you want to make the object your cutting as even as possible. Also what a difference a spring provides instead no spring attached. Not only has this provided a much easier time cutting multiple items repeatively, however this also provides better control in when cutting smaller items. Additionally, with a spring attachment there also in this case is a means of locking this tool when not in use and or for safety reasons as well. The handle is comfortable to use as well, even after extended usage as well. Should your grip be compromised, the handle ultillizes a non slip material as well. This is a fantastic mini bolt cutter and while this may cost more than your average mini bolt cutter, I am fairly certain this tool could easily last an exceptionally long time and Knipex has a life time warranty on most their tools as well. This tool is no exception to that warranty either.Overall, I do highly recommend this product and would and have already recommended this tool to anyone.

High Carbon Steel 320ksi Chainmail
I make chainmail in my free time out of high carbon steel piano wire with a .071" diameter. When I make coils they are only around 5/16" so bolt cutters are typically too big to fit into the coil when you are cutting it into rings. My original solution was using a Dremel with a cutting disc, but the wire is so strong that it would eat down the discs really quickly (not to mention the mess the disintegrating disc would leave behind), and it would take forever to cut a full coil. I tried a few different high leverage cutters (all of which were made in China) but the piano wire indented the lot of them. That is when I was browsing around and found these. Expensive? Yes. But I decided to give them a try because of the high rating and thank God I did. KNIPEX has found a loyal customer from now on! I'm already looking at getting more KNIPEX products. These are such solid, well made tools that they totally worth the investment. They take me back to years ago in my Grandpa's workshop with all of his old but solid tools from the 1940s/50s made out of good ole American steel. Unfortunately the American market doesn't care about quality anymore... THANK GOD the Germans do! Totally worth the money! Do yourself a favor and invest in one good tool instead of tearing through 10 cheap ones... you'll save money in the end!

The Knipex are great, but for 30% to 50% less, I personally think the Fujiya pair is better...
These are usually knipex quality and beautiful German made bolt cutters. The spring and lock work great and operate smoothly. The edges are sharp and cut cleanly, and the comfort grip is comfortable as well. However, for about 1/2 the price (if ordering directly from Amazon Japan), or about 30% less if ordering from a US seller, you can get the comparable Fujiya bolt cutters. The fujiya pair is also spring loaded with a lock, and are made in Japan. They are also very very highly quality Japanese made bolt cutters with a comfortable comfort grip as well. In my opinion, and as someone who owns and has used both, I personally believe thar the Fujiya pair is better. They cut cleaner, are easier to cut, the leverage is stronger, and are 30% to 50% (depending on where you purchase them) less than the Knipex pair. They are both high quality, great bolt cutters, but in my opinion, the Fujiya pair takes the win!

Fantastic for chain mail
I enjoy making chain mail and use these to cut thousands of stainless steel rings out of 16ga wire. These are small enough to fit inside the rings to cut several at a time with ease! Very impressive and super nice quality. I originally bought the 6" version of these cutters but they could only really cut one ring (no, not THAT one ring) at a time, so these are much nicer for my application.

great hook cutter
i have actually returned this (easily), because it was not what i thought i bought. i wanted the one with the notch in the blades (knipex 7132200). this product is sturdy and will cut thick wire. i've had two of these (with the notch) that i gave to my fishing guides. easily cut vmc treble hooks 5/0 4x strong. i originally had a different brand that was advertised as "strong hook cutter", but it wouldn't even cut a small treble hook. you need the knipex if you have to cut a hook out of a big musky (or a person).
