Egg Slicer for Hard Boiled Eggs - 3 Slice Modes Egg Cutter, Dicer, Chopper

I got this because we have one egg slicer in the house, and a kitchen upstairs and a kitchenette in the basement. When you want the egg slicer, it's ALWAYS in the wrong end of the house. With this, I could finally cede the household egg slicer to the main kitchen and have one downstairs for my culinary experiments.Honestly, I could have just bought an egg slicer but just look at all these options! A wedger, a...well, 'splodey thing (I'll explain that later), and even a cup for the 'splodey thing!Look, an egg slicer...slices eggs. It doesn't get more complicated than that. But this one does slice them on the thin side, so just one egg covers my egg sandwich without any gaps. I hate gaps in my egg sandwich, so I purposefully looked for one that sliced them on the thin side. If you like boiled egg sandwiches, you know what I mean. You end up with that round side of the egg somewhere that shoots out of the sand which when you bite into it, and you end up with bare naked bread. Or maybe I'm just OCD.Then there's the wedger. That's just lovely for fancy salads. I mean, you make yourself a boring salad and its OK, but doesn't something nicely cut make it oddly taste better? And you can throw some cherry tomatoes in there for wedging. I don't know why, but take the same thing and change it's appearance a little and it seems to taste better. Just cutting a sandwich diagonally, putting your lunch on some brown waxed paper in a reusable box clamshell makes it seem like it came out of a fancy deli.Then there's the 'splodey part. I have a chopper/grinder, but eggs just get disintegrated. Sometimes that's good, like in deviled eggs, but sometimes you don't want your eggs mulched into oblivion.I wanted to make a kind of simple but odd egg salad I like, and the eggs have to be more diced than dust. The 'splodey end looked more like it julienned than diced, so I figured I'd try slicing an egg first, then putting it in sideways in that odd looking end and giving it a try.The results were hilarious as it was happening. The egg squished a little, bulged, then burst through the wire on top. Oh, it didn't literally explode, but it looked like the poor thing was about to. The little cup can hold about one egg. Since I was going to use a bunch of eggs, I just started dumping it into a larger bowl.That end is an egg crumbled, like for salads if you don't want pretty wedges. You don't need to make multiple passes like I did. On squish works fine for salads. The cup locks onto the whole rig, so presumably you can safely transport it somewhere.But to actually dice the eggs intact you'll need to pass one through the wedge or slicer first, then the 'splodey end.Tormenting the little eggs by squishing, bulging, then watching them squirt through the 'splodey end proved to be a brief diversion, and the eggs turned out perfect.The gizmo is dishwasher safe...and I'll be honest, cleaning it by hand is a pain. The wires aren't bad, but the 'splodey part? Therein is the problem. Unlike the other two parts, the egg doesn't pass through the botton; it presses against it, and a small crisscross of grooves act as the cutting board for the wires to press against. These grooves are about 1/16-1/8 of an inch wide and form tight little squares. A marvel of engineering, a nightmare to hand clean.I had to take the edge of a fork an run a tine down each groove under running water as I went. Then a toothbrush either pulling or pushing in a single direction pushing down into the grooves.Or I could throw it in the top rack of the dishwasher's top rack and forget about it. I bought an extra so I wouldn't have to steal it back from the upstairs kitchen.If you buy someone one of those nice fast multiple egg cookers, or that insanely effective egg peeler, this makes a great accompaniment. And if you're having a bad day, 'sploding some eggs will make you feel better.

What a great product. I love the options of slicing, dicing and paring the eggs. I did discover that after dicing, the particles of the eggs are a bit difficult to clean out. Finally had to use my sprayer on full force and that did the trick.

So far so good! No problem with h.b. eggs. Strawberries are a bit more of a challenge, I’m concerned about the longevity of the cutting wires. Only time will tell.

Oh man I love this! It has replaced 2 other pieces & they are off to the thrift store! Love it!

It does a good job for slicing into wedges and slices, but when dicing it can take a long time to pick the tiny bits from the cracks. I had to get a toothpick to finally get the tiny pieces all cleaned out. The washing spray from our kitchen sink wasn't able to spray them out. We make Egg-Tuna salad frequently and like the dicing feature for that use. Many times however for sliced eggs to put on Crackers with a pinch of Bacon Crumbles and a little dash of Chipotle Aoli, I reach for the Amco Slicer Wedge cutter we've had for more than 25 years.

it's so cool! I was making egg salad sandwiches and there is one section that chops up the egg just perfectly!

Great for slicing or diceing hard boiled eggs. There is even a cover to help contain the pieces once diced.As for slicing or diceing tomatoes, not so smoothly done. The wires bend a bit with the cherry tomatoes. Our tomatoes were fresh from garden, so maybe the skin was a bit thicker than store bought tomatoes? Not sure, so we will be not using this for tomatoes. Thinking about trying it on strawberries? Or grapes? But have not tried them yet. Maybe cantaloupe? Or pickles? Cucumber? My mind is spinning.Endless other soft foods to try. I think the wires will get stuck in cheese.

It is exactly what I was looking for. Very good and versatile.

The slicer is ok, the wedger is ok. But the masher mmm you need a high pressure hose to clean it as the egg gets stuck in the groves .

Wasn't expecting this to be as heavy duty as it is, the wires on each cutter look and felt very durable, so I know I will get more action out of this cutter then the last two I bought from where ever

I find the wires quite slight.so far it works very well good on eggs.Time will tell tell.
