Smart Swith that doesn't need a hub or neutral wire but still works great!
I recently upgraded my home lighting system. I selected the BN-LINK WiFi Smart In-Wall Light Switch. Installation was pretty easy, and I would say that anyone that has ever done any fix-it stuff around the house would probably not have difficulty installing the switch. There are instructions instructions provided made the process straightforward. One of the standout features is its integration with Amazon Alexa โ setting it up to work with voice commands was quick and easy. The convenience of being able to control the lights with simple voice prompts adds a new level of ease to my life. What sets the BN-LINK switch apart is its compatibility without the need for a hub or a neutral wire. This not only simplifies the setup process but also makes it more accessible for those who may not have a neutral wire in their electrical system. The switch has been reliable in its performance, responding promptly to commands through the app or Alexa. While I appreciate the convenience it offers, it's important to note that occasional connectivity issues have arisen when the home network had connectivity issues. However, these instances have been rare and didn't significantly impact my overall use of the device. In would say that the BN-LINK WiFi Smart In-Wall Light Switch is a great addition for those looking to modernize their home lighting with user-friendly features and seamless smart home integration.

Easy install, setup is cumbersome, works great through native app and even better linked to Alexa
I received and installed this switch today. It is easy to install, but it does protrude from the wall (thickness of frame/housing) enough that a standard switch plate will not pull flush against the wall behind it. This only matters if you're using it in a box with other switches and need a double or triple switch cover (like my application). It did include a single switch cover that is deep enough, and it appears to be a nice one. You must use the native app for initial setup and linking to Alexa. It appears you needs BOTH apps running for Alexa control. I would prefer if Alexa could recognize and configure this switch without the native app. The included (paper) instructions were not useful for setup. I had to trial and error my way through, but it was intuitive enough that between Alexa and Smart Life apps, I figured it out pretty quickly. Depress and hold the switch for 7 seconds to enter pairing mode. The switch works fine being controlled by either app, although the smart-life app is very basic, just on/off and building a simple timer schedule. Through Alexa however, you have greatly expanded capability, such as sunset to sunrise, with offsets, easily configured as a routine. I have mine set that way (through the Alexa routine. Once thing that seems counterintuitive is that the LED status light is RED for on, and GREEN for off. There does not appear to be a way to change that, but, a quick google search revealed that this convention appears to actually be an old electrical standard. Red for "Power on, unsafe" and green for "Power off, safe". All in all I'm happy with this unit, and it does everything the manufacturer claims it does.

mounting plate problem
unit functions well; connects to Alexa automatically. The cover plate that comes with it is fine for a single gang outlet. However, when mounting on a multi gang box, a standard plate doesn't work well. The switch does not have threads to accommodate the plate screws. not the best design.

Not the same switch it used to be
I bought one of these switches several months ago and it worked great. I was able to set it up using the SmartLife app and put it on a regular schedule. When I ordered what was supposedly the exact same switch more recently Amazon either sent me a newer version or just the wrong one. The new one requires use of the BN-Hub app which is complete garbage and can't even setup a regular dusk to dawn on/off schedule for a light switch. Read the reviews of the app. It's complete garbage. I wish I could get the same switch I ordered previously but I guess when Amazon says "buy again" that means buy whatever we feel like sending you this time not necessarily the same product you ordered before.

Excellent switch at a great price
Contrary to some reviews, I had this switch installed in 15 minutes. If you aren't familiar with electric circuits, get someone to help you. You need two things, a neutral wire and to know which wire is your hot one and which one is the load wire. You can test for this with a multimeter or a contactless tester. The neutral wires, if present are usually two or more white wires in the back of the gang box connected with a wire nut. You just have to take the wire nut off, add the white wire from the switch and put the wire nut back on. OF COURSE, MAKE SURE YOU SHUT THE CORRECT CIRCUIT BREAKER OFF BEFORE YOU TOUCH ANY WIRES. The black wire from the switch gets connected to the HOT or LINE wire from the switch you are replacing and the red wire from the switch gets connected to the LOAD or non-hot wire from the old switch. The green wire gets connected to the bare ground wire. Download the BN-LINK SMART app and follow instructions. If you don't have a neutral wire, you will have to do a search for the no-neutral version of this switch.

Pretty nice, not too hard to install and setup
I installed two of these smart wall switches this weekend. They were not too hard to install and once setup they are really nice. The instructions on setup after the unit is wired, is not super clear but easy enough to figure out. The question I had is what if it just displays a red light? This is not covered in the instructions. What you do is hold down the switch for 5 seconds or so until it starts flashing green. Also make sure your phone is on the 2.4GHz network too. I had mine on the 5GHz network and I couldn't talk to the wall switch. Once you are properly connected using the app to set the timer is a breeze. Also, you can override the timer by turning on the wall switch. I couldn't find that in any info on this before I purchased but I hoped it worked that way and it does. Note you will need a neutral (white) wire to connect this. You probably don't have one connected to your current light switch but there should be a neutral in the box that you can tap into. If you get the "load" and "line" wires mixed up don't worry, I did that. When you get them backwards you won't get a red or a green light. Turn the breaker off again, switch load and line the wiring and you should be all set. I didn't burn out the switch or anything like that.

You MUST use their app
Reading through the reviews, some say it works fine with Smart Life (which integrates with Google Home) and some says it does not. Apparently they've made a product change and the newer versions will ONLY connect to their BN-Hub app. Well, I wired mine up in only a few minutes, then spent the next 2 hours trying to sync it with Smart Life. It cannot be done. I tried every selection, and every connection method (wifi, BLE, wifi+BLE, etc). Smart Life cannot see this device. I finally downloaded their BN-Hub app and regrettably logged in with my Google account. Even with their app it took multiple attempts. When adding the switch, there are 3 identical switch options. After several attemps, the app finally connected as a smart plug. At this point, it still can't be connected to Smart Life and the only way to share it Google Home is to sync my account with their app. I own several smart devices and every single one links to Smart Life except this one. I even tried resetting it and syncing with Smart Life again as a smart plug but still the app can't see it. It feels like it was designed not to be compatible with it. Maybe it'll work for you if you're ok syncing with and/or using their BN-Hub app. I'm not. I'm returning it.

Mechanical fit issues in a 3-gang box, 3rd party app issues
I bought this device 11 months ago, and just got around to installing it. So, I'm outside of the return window. Yet, I am considering paying the extra dollar to replace this device already based on today's installation experience. The electrical performance so far is as expected. The two areas where I feel this product is substandard. I installed this switch in a nice, deep, 3-gang box (with a neutral wire) next to the front door of my house is where I installed this unit. I was replacing an Intermatic time-based device that is supposed to turn on at dusk and turn off later in the evening at a specific time. Because the clock in the Intermatic device is imprecise, it drifts 'fast' at an objectionable rate (requiring resetting every few weeks). So, I bought this so-called smart switch to replace the Intermatic. I share this because it frames why I am not 100% pleased with this device. Having a lot of experience with electricity and electrical devices made the termination of the switch a trivial process for me. Seating the switch in the box was not more difficult than the installation process was for the Intermatic years ago; however, the alignment of the faceplate screw holes is off just enough that it causes the body of the switch toggle to bind against the face plate on the right edge of the switch. There was no problem like this with the switch it replaced. I would expect a switch designed to fit with such tight tolerances around the switch toggle plate would have tight specifications and testing on where the faceplate holes are drilled to ensure this binding action does not happen. If I leave the faceplate screws out, the faceplate mounting holes in the switch body are slightly to the left in both the bottom and the top holes. The compromise solution is to install the screws partially, which leaves them sticking out of the face plate, but at least covering the exposed holes. Then, there is yet another application I needed to install on my phone to set this device up (in addition to the apps for another brand of 'smart' plugs I use. I was disappointed to find out that not all apps are created equal. The app used with this device only allows setting a schedule with specific times, and not other interesting variable times such as sunrise and sunset. Also, following installation of the software, it failed to function correctly after having me register with who knows who or where. I ended up forcing the app to reload, at which point it began to function correctly and allowed me to register the device. Fortunately, I was able to get Alexa to gateway through this app to create the routine I wanted for the behavior I had been accustomed to with the Intermatic timer switch. If I could do it all over again, I would buy the Amazon Basics version for another dollar and have a switch that works directly with Amazon's Alexa app. I would avoid having yet another disappointing and poorly-functioning app on my phone requiring me to register with my e-mail address on yet another nameless and faceless entity from who knows where doing who knows what with yet another collected e-mail address.

Great switch!
I use their software app on my phone and it works very well. Mmuliple programs can be set with no problem at all. My only issue is the notification light is red when on and green when off. Just seems backwards to me.

Works Great
The switch was installed very quickly and sync with BN link app first attempt. The only issue i had to install the face push on plate which took several attempts to securely attached.
