So far great. Very smooth non-stick surface
So far great. Very smooth non-stick surface. Large area. Key to such devices, however, is longevity. I have gone thru a few of these, including a Presto model years ago. So I can't comment if it will endure after 1yr, 3yrs. Based on memory though, this one is starting much better than the last Presto model.Update March 2016: after almost 9 months, I can report the thing is holding up really well compared to past models: 1) you don't see a marking shaped like the heating elements underneath (ie, it is hotter directly above the heating elements compared to surface areas slightly farther away); 2) the surface remains smooth and non-stick like new.

Excellent value. Slick non-stick surface.
We've had this griddle for two and a half years so far and it's still going strong! We use it at least once a week. The element still heats evenly. The non-stick surface is still non-stick and intact. In fact it's so non-stick that you risk pushing pancakes off the side instead of slipping a spatula under them. That's slick! Note that we do hand wash it after every use. It has never been in our dishwasher.I'm extremely pleased, which is why I bothered to look this up and write a review two and a half years later. I usually don't expect an inexpensive appliance like this to last long. If this one broke tomorrow I'd buy another one. But it seems like I'm safe for some time.

Pretty good, but not wonderful
I bought this to make cooking breakfast easier. Although I only cook for two, using 2 or 3 different pans was tedious and pancakes took FOREVER on my griddle pan that came with my set. This griddle is spacious enough for me to cook 6 good-size pancakes and sausage links at the same time. I also tried doing scrambled eggs on it, but that needs some perfecting....It is true that you get striped pancakes due to where the heating element falls, but that is not a big deal to me. If I wanted perfectly colored pancakes, I'd invest a heck of a lot more than $35 or so for a griddle. The heating is not so uneven that anything burns before the rest is cooked....you can just see where the element runs. No biggie. The grease channel/catcher is a good idea in theory, but I haven't made anything yet that produces enough grease for it to be useful. During my egg attempt, some of it ran into the channel and was wasted even though I poured slowly and deliberately to avoid it. Again, not a huge deal but a little annoying. Hence the need to perfect my method :)My only real gripe is that the side walls are too shallow for my preference, making it hard to scoop things off the griddle. Pancakes SHOULD be easy, but I've had a few slide off the griddle rather than onto my spatula because there wasn't enough wall there to stop it. Same goes for sausage links, though I started using tongs for those...it's not a big enough problem that I wouldn't recommend this product, but I would wait until it goes on sale. I've seen it around town for about $20, which is a good price for it. I paid $35 and am a little miffed, but overall it was almost worth the price.

Proven Winner!
After approximately 18 years of faithful service, I decided to replace my old Presto Griddle with a new one. I'm sure, had it not suffered a broken leg after being dropped, I could have gotten several more years of service out of it. That being said, when I made the fateful decision to replace it, I looked at nothing else but this model of Presto. It's size, convenience, reliability and versitility fit my lifestyle. Make pancakes or French toast 8 at a time? This griddle does it. Cook up a pound of bacon? No problem. Make several panini or grilled cheese sanwiches? A snap! (A little hint. To make a number of panini at one time, just put aluminum foil on the underside of a sheet pan and use it to press all your panini at once. Either hold it down with a couple pot holders or weigh it down with a couple cast iron skillets.)Concerns that "improvements" over time may have made my new griddle less of a warhorse than my old one were quickly put to rest. The weight and materials seem to be the same and if anything, the non-stick surface seems to be improved. If I have a minor complaint, it would be that the end furthest from the controller seems to heat a little more than the end that is closest. That being known, it's easy enough to compensate for. (My old griddle was exactly the same.) Cleanup is a snap. I prefer to let the griddle cool slightly and rinse it off while still warm. The residual heat helps remove grease from the surface and also drys it quickly. This griddle is a proven winner in all regards!

Works well, but construction is worrisome
This appliance is what I expected, though now that I have it, I wish its construction were a little more robust. It heats up easily hot enough for hash browns and pancakes, and quickly too. What's coming in the near future, however, is the handles breaking. They're made of a very easily broken Bakelite(tm) type material, as is the little drawer underneath. The latter broke as soon as I dropped it. The way the handles are attached and the thickness of their construction will make them the first to go after which the unit will be unusable. Take extreme caution in how it's stored, don't let the handles get too hot, be careful washing the unit, etc. But, for the price, it works very well and I'll bet all the other griddles suffer from this sort of under-construction as well. I once had a griddle so well constructed that the non-stick surface and the heating element went long before the handles were in danger.

I have made about 300 pancakes so far with no issues using this griddle.
The product arrived and worked as expected. This is what I expected and received.I use the Griddle for Pancakes at my Church. I have made about 300 pancakes so farwith no issues. Cleaning the product is quick and simple. I would recommend to buy this productlong as the price does NOT go up.I would do business again with PRESTO under these terms.
