A birdwatcher’s Dream
As a birdwatcher and wildlife enthusiast, I was searching for high-quality 8x42 binoculars to complement my hobby. Having trusted Olympus (OM System) for years with their Micro 4/3 OM-D cameras and M.Zuiko professional lenses, I expected nothing less than exceptional optical performance—and these binoculars delivered. The image quality is outstanding: crystal-clear, razor-sharp, and rich in micro-contrast. Colors appear natural and true to life, which is critical for accurate bird species identification. The depth of field remains sharp from center to edge, and I’ve observed no chromatic aberrations or geometric distortions, even in high-contrast scenes. The field of view is wide enough to comfortably track birds in flight with consistency. The central focus knob rotates smoothly, requiring several revolutions for fine adjustments—this ensures precise focusing for both near and distant subjects. Thanks to the same advanced anti-reflective coatings found on M.Zuiko lenses, these binoculars provide a bright, flare-free image—even when pointed near strong light sources like the sun. The construction feels premium yet lightweight enough for all-day use without fatigue. The grip is secure, and the built-in eyecups are comfortable for extended viewing sessions. Eye relief is excellent for both glasses wearers and non-spectacled users. Weather sealing and fog-proofing perform as expected. The ≈1.5-meter minimum focusing distance is a standout feature, perfect for observing birds and wildlife up close. I’m excited to test this further on butterflies and insects come spring. While these optics are an investment, they leave little room for improvement. I see no reason to “upgrade” to a more expensive pair at this magnification. It’s surprising that Olympus Pro ED binoculars (both 8x and 10x) aren’t more frequently mentioned among top-tier options under $1000. If you’re seeking an unparalleled viewing experience for nature and birdwatching, I highly recommend the Olympus Pro ED binoculars.

Excellent for local birds, great eye relief
We did a fair amount of research before choosing these, and they do not disappoint. Great eye relief in addition to excellent optics and a smooth focuser. We're mostly using them for birds near the place we just moved to, and they're great for that.

Excellent quality, light weight, totally waterproof binoculars
My Olympus Pros 8x42 binoculars were a Christmas present from my wife. I have used Olympus SLR cameras since 1975 for their size, light weight and high quality, and the PRO binoculars are similarly endowed. They are waterproof, and have very good image quality. I recommend them highly,

Leica beware!
These binocs have our performed my expectations. Crystal clear optics, lightweight but sturdy construction. I can’t imagine how the brands that cost twice as much could be that much better. Leica beware!

Generally good, not exceptional.
When compared with Nikon Monarch 7, Tract Toric, GPO Spectra, Vanguard Endeavor ED II, Athlon Midas and Maven C1, these came out in the middle of the pack. I liked the build/construction, the ergonomics and armoring. Eye cups functioned well, and image was sharp for most of the FOV. I did not like the cheap seeming accessories, the price, and the distinct false advertising of their transmissivity (Olympus claims ~95%, Allbinos tested at ~85%, my experience was that the Midas, Toric and Spectra binoculars all felt "brighter" than the Olympus Pro). Good all-rounder, but does not excel at price point. Made in China as well.

Brilliant binocular in every aspect. First the optics and image quality is fantastic, it’s brighter than many binoculars costing around £800 to £1000. The coating is tuned for maximum brightness, and neutral colours rather than micro contrast/saturated colours. If you like punchy image with a pop this binocular isn’t for you. The Olympus retain a cool colour pallet very close to neutral. The focuser is smooth and has the right resistance to reach a sharp focus. The only let let down, I would have preferred better quality carrying case and objective lens over.
