Insert it into the center hole on the foot of the lock and turn it. One way lowers the foot. Other way raises the foot. Took me 5 minutes to set up and no matter the torquing and finagling I could not get the pedal jack into an angled position to allow the brake to be depressed. Excellent and easy to use anti theft tool at an affordable cost. For my F150 I'd say I extended the foot platform about 4 inches. Not at all disappointed with this product. Thieves will never put in all the cumbersome effort to cut this thing off while having to squeeze into your floorboard to do so. They will move on to something easier. They may so some electrical and cosmetic damage getting it started before they even see the pedal jack. But you will still have your vehicle. They wont have it. It does require a bit of strength to set properly as your left foot must push on the part of the device labeled "PEDAL" while both your hands pull up the yellow portion of the device towards to you to lock it. That said, my female friend who weighs 115lbs is able to set the device, so you don't have to be Hercules. I'm sure thieves could bypass the device by knocking out the floorboards somehow, but I think that would require quite a bit of time and force, although I could be mistaken because I've never tried. Nonetheless it seems like a good deterrent, especially for the price. Very sturdy and solid very well made. The only problem I had was the keys cause it’s tight fitting but after you use awhile the key slides in the device much easier.
