Wonderful book
This books tells the story of Martin Luther King Jr from a perspective kids can relate to, and helps them to better understand who he was and what his values and beliefs were. They were sad for him as a little boy whose friend was no longer allowed to play with him. They felt pride and respect for what he accomplished. They read that his mission was to work to bring equality to everyone through the love of Jesus. The illustriations are perfect. We really love this book. Our kids have been learning about MLK Jr and his work and impact as an adult, and this is a perfect accompaniment to the other Golden Book about him.

Some whites
Good book that points out racism in a very simple clear way. Thank you so much for saying SOME whites did racist things - NOT all whites. It is important when teaching history to not paint everyone as the same. If you want another story to tell your kids - my German ancestor brought a sacked lunch to work so he could eat lunch with his African American friend and coworker. They had to bring their own food and eat outside in secret because all the restaurants and cafeterias were segregated and they were not allowed to eat together. Every year we hang an ornament on our tree to remember the stories of our ancestors - I hope we never go back to such a terrible world!

Child-appropriate and well done
A sensitive introduction to a serious topic and important figure in American history. My 5-y.o. was able to understand the inherent unfairness of what happens to MLK, and begin to see a wider world through this story.

Good little story
This is a short story about Martin Luther King Jr. when he was young. My daughter had to do a book report on him and I thought it was a great book and easy to read and understand. I had to exsplain that the world has changed since his time thanks to a lot of work he did. She found it very interesting and easy to relate to as a child. Good book, good read!

Good book with a good lesson for children
We had to order this book for my daughters 3rd grade assignment. My daughter loved this book. I liked this book because it provided a lesson to children about race, and prejudices and how it can ruin relationships.
