The Zombie Chasers (Zombie Chasers, 1)

One ordinary evening Zack and his best friend Rice find themselves in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. They join forces with former tormentors Madison (Zack's sister's best friend), and Greg, (jock giver of bathroom swirlies) to try and reach safety at a local army base. The illustrations are gruesome, pustule- and phlegm-filled, and oh-so appealing to the teen and tween set.I highly recommend this book. It can be read in one or two sittings and your reluctant reader will not be able to put it down. It is not full of redeeming social commentary. It will not help your youngster explore his emotions. The characters are stereotyped (the geeky nerd, the vacuous cheerleader, the equally vacuous jock). And yet despite it all, the book is pure, tongue-in-cheek entertainment.

Zombie Chasers is fast-paced, action-packed and fun! Young readers will revel in the consistently fresh and numerous gross-out descriptions (which is perfectly legit, zombies ARE disgusting)which keeps the book funny, rather than scary, but still with great tense scenes to keep you turning the pages. The unlikely collection of survivors' bickering at each other provides good comic relief with the zombpacalypse happening all around them. Fresh and amusing takes on cures and causes of this zombie infection. Humorous illustrations will provide inspiration for zombifiying doodles in a boring class. Cool first book, looks like it should be a good series!

My 9 year old son loves these books. We grabbed the third at a book sale last summer and he talked about it so much I started looking for the rest of the series. Good price and he read it immediately.

I bought the first three books of this series for my 7 year old nephew for his birthday. He is loving them! He is a big reader and is a bit ahead of his grade in terms of reading level. In the past he has read The Wimpy Kid Diaries and The Adventures of Captain Underpants. He wanted to move onto Harry Potter, but I thought this would be a good stepping stone before delving into the huge HP books! My nephew laughs out loud when reading these which I think is fantastic--a book that makes young boys want to and enjoy reading, what more could you ask for!

Good pre-teen to young teen book as there is a very small amount of "attraction" comments by Rice (one of the charactors). My sons love zombie movies so this was a good story without excessive gore or violence for younger readers. However, don't expect to finish the story in a single read. As a series every book is a bit of a cliff hanger.

Purchased this book for my 5th grade stepson in order to help teach him how to identify story elements while teaching him college prep habits...if you're looking for a fun teen and adult read, this is an awesome book. I struggled finding a story within the zombie genre that would be age appropriate, interesting to both him and me, but most importantly serve the school-related purpose intended. This book has it all. Tone, mood, symbolism...very satisfied as a parent. Fun read if you enjoy zombies or anything horror related!

After years of trying to encourage my youngest son to read a book through to the end, this series got him hooked on reading in a way he hadn't previously. Something about it captured his imagination and got him excited enough to read through not just this book, but the entire series. That excitement has carried on to him looking for other books to read. Whereas previously it was like pulling teeth to get him to read through a book to the end, he's now reading through at least a book or two a week.

Went into my son's room last night at 10:00 pm and he was reading this book!! Went to wake him up this morning and he was reading this book! He can't put it down, he was even reading it on the way to school today. Needless to say, I will be ordering more from this series. I keep telling my son that once you experience a great book you will love reading, thank you John Kloepfer for proving me right.
