Popular artifact from the Jesus People era, in a 40th anniversary form
Perfectly fine for a start. It's been around since the days of the Godspell and Brother Son, Sister Moon years. It shares that era's sunny disposition, while not shying away from hints, it being written by a Franciscan friar, from the deeper and sometimes darker side of the commitment required to follow the demanding Gospel-centered path here preached. It's a combination of a biography, a tour of the fabled surroundings of Assisi and environs, and a slightly fictionalized series of vignettes that follow the evolution of Francis as he journeys into the challenges ahead as he pursues the dream of Christ-like submission and total devotion to Lady Poverty. It's simply told, and the additional afterward, sources, and preface by John Michael Talbot (fittingly as he comes from that early 1970s troubadour contingent) will add to the appeal for readers finding out about spirituality and the Franciscan charism. From here, a seeker will want to go deeper, but it's an accessible entry point for those curious about both the "soft-focus" appeal of the man in question, and how a friar early in his long writing career conceived its form.

The Journey and the Dream never end
This book was given to me in the late 70s when I was discerning whether God may be calling me to religious life - I would have entered a Franciscan Community. God led me in a different direction. I am married and have 2 grown children. While on a directed retreat recently at a Franciscan Spiritual Center at the beginning of Advent, my director asked if I have ever read Francis, The Journey and the Dream. I told her around 40 years ago and a time or two since then. She recommended I read it again. Still a profound book that challenges me to open my hands and allow God to lead me. My journey took a different path, but the Dream has been rekindled!

A spiritual biography
This wonderful book gives the reader some insights into the Franciscan way of spirituality with equal emphasis on theory (dream)and practice ( journey). Father Bodo does this using brief chapters a few pages long to illustrate some stage from Francis’ life. He does this by writing in an imaginative way about Francis’ life and spiritual development.

Excellent!
Congratulation to the author. This is an excellent book on St Francis. I learned so much about St Francis. I knew he was known for his love of creature but I learned so much more of his ministry.

CARTAS For Children...God's love for His people...that is what Francis and Clare came to understand very well.
Really quite good. Having been to Assisi recently, feeling the presence of Saint Francis and Saint Clare, I can say that reading this book brought me back there intimately feeling the presence of these two amazing people of 13th century Assisi. I highly recommend this book and of course, to take the pilgrimage to Assisi in person. An amazing place of peace and reflection of God's Love as understood by Francis and Clare. Enjoy!!!

I didn’t like the way Father bodo writes as though you are listening to the thoughts and internal workings of St Frances’s mind, doesn’t matter how much you’ve studied a saint it’s not possible to portray their psyche to any degree of accuracy and in fact I found it possibly misleading and erroneous, basically I lost trust in the auto and stopped reading. I would recommend st bonaventures original.

A must to read.
Beautifully written, easy to read book by Father Murray Bodo. A nice insight into the life of St Francis of Assisi. Little chapters reflecting various key points in his journey for Christ.

I was fortunate enough to visit Assisi last year and this book ...
I was fortunate enough to visit Assisi last year and this book brought back many happy memories of the places, associated with St Francis, that we visited. This is a lovely book of meditations and a 'journey in the footsteps of St Francis'.
