is it good for well water?

Depends on the quality of your well, may be worth having it tested to make sure you get the right size. Also may be good to have a filter in front of the softener.

does this system timer etc need an enclosure from the elements ?

I already had a cement slap and covered area added on to the back of my shed. I did add a temp wall enclosure until I can build permanent walls. Not sure if it’s necessary but I want this system to last.

I have received a bag of Ion exchange resin along with the water softener, The tank already has resin in it, do I need to add the extra resin ?

The tank comes preloaded with gravel. You must add all the resin it came with.

Can I plumb the discharge/waste line to my garden or will the discharge water damage my plants?
