The Alphabet Book (Bright & Early Board Books)

Super-approachable ABC for older kids who are learning to read English
For people who speak English to their kids in a non-English speaking country, this is a really user-friendly way of teaching the ABC. The illustrations for each letter are amusing/shocking enough to be really memorable.

Just what I was looking for
I was looking for an "Alphabet Book" to offer as a door prize at a presentation I was doing about phonics and spelling. This board book was perfect! It was appropriate, good quality, and very reasonable price.

Great book, not so great condition.
The book itself is 5 stars, the condition it arrived would be one star. This (along with a couple other books I ordered separately) arrived bent. I know that sounds weird for a board book, however, it is actually bent and does not lay flat. I had returned a book from a previous order and then had this one and another book arrive damaged and gave up on exchanging. It does drive me crazy that it does not stand on the bookshelf properly so it may become a book for the car.

Never received it
I love this book, so I was very excited to order it for a co-worker's baby shower. However, despite both the packing slip and every other form of receipt claiming that the book was included, I never received it. I tore apart the box. I looked through the extra packing paper very carefully. I looked in and around the other items that arrived in the same box, but it was not there. I left a comment about the packaging, but I never heard anything back from Amazon. Very disappointed. The book itself deserves five stars, as far as I'm concerned. It's a great board book, and my niece enjoyed "reading" it on her own from the time she was six or seven months.

Son loves it
I love that there are nice big capital letters on each page. The pictures and words are just a bonus. The only thing I wish is that this was a board book. The paper pages and paperback style cover make it pretty flimsy for young kids. But I got it for under 4 bucks, so I guess I could always buy another one if/when this one tears.

No imaginary Creatures, but some silly illustration choices
This is good, but I agree with the other reviews: Why use a baby to illustrate the letter "I" and call it and infant? What parent has taught their child to call a baby an "infant"? Also, "X-mas" for Christmas was cheap. Otherwise, it is a nice simple alphabet board book and it doesn't have imaginary creatures like the Dr. Seuss one.

Could have been better
Firstly, the letter on each page could have been bigger. Secondly, some of the examples are somewhat out of context in India. Thirdly, each example could have been simpler. There is no need to double down on the example. For example, D for dog with a drum or Z for zebra with a zither is needlessly complicated. It simply confuses my toddler. It's not a complete waste but if you are in earnest about teaching your toddler the alphabet, the traditional cheap alphabet books you get in the local store is still your best option.
