Sim card
If, like me, you want to upgrade from a basic mobile phone to a basic smart phone, take your existing phone into a phone/tech device shop and ask if your sim card will work in a smart phone. Very old ones won't.Luckily mine did. Not too difficult to get this new phone working, but a bit tricky to get the sim card to slide all the way into the slot so that the battery could go in.Now waiting for my cleaner's next visit so she can give me a tutorial.

It’s a very functional but basic phone
There’s NO DOUBT about it...The Doro 5516 3G-enabled version of the phone is a very basic mobile phone.. I believe that a previous reviewer basically called it a “back-to-basics” Phone. It is a very capable and functional phone in WHAT it does though, such as being able to make and receive calls with a reasonable call quality, having a long battery life (over two weeks I’m getting with reasonable use i.e. two calls a day of about 5mins, mainly receiving about 5 messages a day), an ICE (DIAL Or USE In Case of Emergency Telephone Numbers, which can be easily set up by using the EASY START UP WIZARD option THAT COMES UP WHEN ONE TRIES to set up the whole phone... In my view, I believe this SHOULD ONLY BE DONE once one has charged the battery for about 24hours BEFORE use, put a Standard SIM Card in it and ideally a 32Gb Micro SD Card, as the phone has a very small memory 60Mb which is hardly sufficient), easy access to a Tiny pinpoint light (press and hold on to a picture of a Torch as shown on one of my attached pics), which is sufficient to see the keyhole at night when trying to open the door to your home etc..I was quite unsure about getting the phone as I had read lots of reviews on the internet about the Phone Battery being very weak and the phone refusing to turn on after about a day or week of use.. I therefore decided to investigate by doing lots of searches over the internet, analysing the result and also downloading the phone user manual from the internet (By the way, a Quick Starter Guide comes with the phone, which is VERY USEFUL... anyway) : My conclusion was that the DORO 5516 3G Phone Batteries, like those in iPhones, are Polymer Lithium batteries , and so one needs to FULLY charge the battery for up to 24Hours BEFORE 1ST USE.... IDEALLY BUY A NEW PHONE AND NOT A USED ONE so you are able to correctly judge the condition & efficiency of the battery... I also learnt from the downloaded pdf USER MANUAL of the phone, that one may need to charge the phone UP TO THREE TIMES BEFORE IT REACHES ITS Full Charging and Discharging Capability...I would highly recommend the phone, as long as one goes in with BOTH EYES FULLY OPEN, accepting it’s a very basic phone coming with a very basic BLUETOOTH VERSION (Ver 2.0 - This can be activated by going into MENU ➡️ SETTINGS (You get to this by keep scrolling down EVEN after you get to “MORE”. and “SETTINGS” is at the very bottom of the options available... )➡️ CONNECTIVITY (Keep scrolling down till you get to it) then ➡️BLUETOOTH ➡️ and then ACTIVATION etc It’s no iPhone or Samsung Phone, however it can be useful for an elderly relative, or as in my case, as a spare occasional phone I’ve acquired to enable me to use My Three Mobile PAYG (Pay As You Go) SIM Card, that comes with good offers every now & then via its WUNTU app (iOS/Google PlayStore), such as Free Online Film Rental via Rakuten TV or a Free 2D Film at Cine Cinemas, or a Free Drink at Costa Coffee or Patisserie Valerie or even the occasional free chocolates offered via Hotel Chocolat.Thank you so much for reading my review, and I hope you’ve found it helpful...

Not smart - but better for it
This is a great phone, and it will run on the 3G network. Nice buttons and display - but they don't scream "special needs". It has good battery life, and enough features. I am happy with it. The predictive text while typing text messages is very good. I did do a few emails on the phone, but I don't recommend it. The camera is OK, but you would probably want a separate one if the photos are important. It would be OK for use at an accident, for example. It doesn't have the Android operating system (hooray) so it won't need to update itself all the time (hooray). There aren't apps to download (hooray), and those apps won't need to update themselves all the time (hooray), nor will they be spying on you (hooray). And of course, it will limit what can be spent on the phone. The phone has 2 metal contacts on the outside which will connect to 2 metal contacts on the charging cradle (look for it online). I bought this as well. It means that I don't have to deal with a fiddly micro USB plug every-time I want to charge it.I recommend this phone.
