ease of operation
I love my Nor-vise. I started with a Regal Travel vise and really liked it. I added a Renzetti 400 and also loved this vise. It is my first truly rotary vise. I saw the Norvise and liked the concept so I bought one. It was a great deal different at the beginning but I thought I need to give its real try. After tying on the Norvise I love it. I still occasionally go to the Renzetti now and then, it can not take the place of the Norvise. Flies are consistent, are better tied and last longer. I used to take the Regal down South for the Winter but now take the Norvise. It's just plain fun to tie on. As far a adjusting for the different hook sizes which some say is difficult, it is a piece of cake and is. not even an issue. Well done Norvise.

Cumbersome to use, over rated.
Dislike the jaws, small flies/ hooks size 16 and smaller are difficult to tie.

Quality build and good value for a complete system.
I delayed getting a rotating vise. Researched the Norvise and was skeptical. Now you can’t get me to look at another system. Nice quality. Easy to use. Directions and other user recommendations on YouTube. The design makes perfect sense. With the hook shank centered getting a neat tight taper is easy to master. The Norvise can still be used to tie conventional flies without rotation. Dubbing is a breeze. Applying coatings is supper fast and pretty. Good value for the dollar.

Do not buy!
System is poorly made! Just bought the vise and it had problems from the get go. The owner was not helpful and explaining how he fixed the problem. Very disappointing!!!

Poor Design and Implementation
I had a opportunity to borrow my friends Norvise. I was really daisy. You have to use the vise with a premade box out of plywood. No standalone pedestal. Adjusting vise for hooks is very complicated. Poor design. There are several better vises out there for this price range.

So far so good...
I've had this vise for about 3 months now - but haven't had enough time actually using it yet (busy schedule and all that). I've tied probably 40 flies with it so far... so as I said... not enough time. But - here's my take on it so far:First the Cons:- There doesn't seem to be enough videos that show how to really take advantage of the capabilities of the vise. Yes, I've watched the DVD that came with it as well as the videos on YouTube - but there just isn't as many videos showing tricks and tips or even full fledged flies being tied with this vise (as compared to regular vises).- It's hard to line up the hook shank so that it spins on its axis of rotation. I have the standard jaw as well as the midge jaw. It's easier with the midge jaw because they give you a "pin" that helps you align the shank - but that pin could easily get lost since you have to remove it to actually tie the fly. I assume that over time, I'll get the hang of just "eyeing" it - but for now, I have a hard time getting my hooks to spin "just right".- I bought the mounting board that you can order with this vise. I've tightened the screws down on it pretty tight, yet the vise and the thread-post are still a little wobbly. I think I just need a thicker mounting board.- Tying smaller flies is a little more challenging (especially with the standard jaws). Specifically, when putting on tails, the back part of the vise gets in the way - and I don't have very big hands... The smallest fly I've tried to tie so far (with the midge jaws) is a size 22.- The learning curve is fairly steep - and as with anything, tricks and tips would be nice. The problem is that since there aren't as many people that tie with this vise, there aren't as many examples that you'll find for new tricks and tips with using the vise. Granted, many of the tricks and tips that apply to normal rotary vises apply here - though I'd dare say there are probably other cool things that could be done with the Nor-vise that you couldn't do with regular rotary vises - I just wish I knew what they were :)Now the Pros:- This vise is great for tying larger flies efficiently and quickly.- Once the tail is done on smaller flies, tying the rest of the fly is just like normal (i.e. nice and efficient).- This vise is fun to use. I've also got a regular vise (though not an expensive one and not a rotary one) - and the Nor-vise is definitely more fun to use.- The automatic bobbin is AWESOME! Even if you tie with a regular vise, it wouldn't hurt to get one or a couple of these.- I love the ability to dub easily without having to manually twist the dubbing on the thread.- The jaws that hold the hook on are plenty strong. The "Low Down":- This is my "second vise" - though it's my first "good vise" - I don't know if I would've done better with spending the money on a nice regular rotary vise and learning how to really tie flies with that first - given that I can get a lot more "existing knowledge" from the Net with the standard vises.- I really do like the vise so far and don't regret purchasing it - though I may still end up buying a regular rotary vise... I'm going to make myself tie at least another couple of hundred flies with the Nor-vise before I make that decision though. Maybe after the learning curve, everything will just fall into place and I can quickly and efficiently tie all flies big and small :)- If you analyze my "Cons" section, it would seem that most of my problems pretty much comes down to lack of experience and the learning curve. I think once I have tied enough flies with this - that those Cons will go away - I HOPE...- Maybe I'll post an update once I tie a couple hundred more flies - we'll see...
