If you're like me -- a crocheter and not a knitter -- you approach the needlecrafts section of the bookstore with a feeling of impending disappointment, and just a touch of envy. After all, there are many more knitting books than there are crochet books, and the crochet stock never seems to rotate frequently enough. One of the most glaring needs in the crochet book universe is for a book of patterns that only takes one skein of yarn to complete. There has been a veritable parade of choices for knitters in this vein, but scant pickings for crocheters.Well, the waiting is over! Crochet One-Skein Wonders offers 101 great patterns for crocheters to use in using up those odd balls of yarn that tend to collect at the end of projects. Sorted by yarn weight -- a nice detail -- crocheters can choose from patterns ranging from standard fare (such as baby booties), to the lacy (several toothsomely airy scarves in varying yarn weights make their appearances) to the outright adorable (the alligator featured on the cover). I was pleasantly surprised to find that Tunisian and bead crochet were also featured in this book.The patterns are sound, and varied enough to satisfy a wide range of crochet tastes. I would definitely recommend this book to my fellow crocheters.

I am SO excited that the One-Skein franchise finally came out with a book that's completely crochet! This book has all kinds of patterns. Obviously a lot of hats, scarves, and baby items, but there are some very surprising finds in there too. A great book to keep around for when you get that one FANTASTIC skein of yarn and you have to make a statement with it. There are also lots of very small patterns (scrunchies, amigurumi) that will easily use that leftover scrap yarn that you can't bring yourself to toss. The ONLY downside I could find was that none of the patterns have a difficulty rating. Overall, an excellent pattern book.

I bought this book as a Christmas gift for myself. I’ve flipped through it many times, and I’m currently making a shawl for my mother using a beautiful shell stitch pattern that is included inside this book. There are lots of projects to choose from, and plenty of great homemade gift ideas. I love that this book is organized by yarn weight. This makes finding a pattern to match leftover yarn so easy! All the patterns come with a visual representation as well as a written pattern, making it easy to follow along. This is a good book of patterns for intermediate crocheting. My only gripe about this book is that some of the skeins that are recommended seem unusually large, which defeats the purpose of buying this book. Still, as long as I make certain to look at how much yarn is recommended, I can pick and choose patterns accordingly. This is a great book for getting rid of a large yarn stash.

I own 15+ crochet books. With the exception of those that teach crochet fundamentals, I would say that this may be the one additional book you should strongly consider adding to your library. While most pattern books focus solely on strange garments that only a weird anorexic hipster or a senior person of painfully bland inclinations would wear, this book really does have something for everyone. I would make more than 75% of the patterns in this book. I have honestly never encountered such a breadth of MODERN, attractive, fun, functional and/or cute patterns. I initially bought this book for two reasons: 1) the cute crocodile on the cover--I mean look at it's cute beady eyes and 2) the notion of using just one skein. I did not expect to get so much more!!In conclusion, buy this book, because there's really nothing like it out there!

Got it from the library initally, but there were sooooo many projects for the leftover skeins in your life that I could not resist. My only caution is that you need to pay careful attention to the yardage and weight. The book is broken down by yarn weight, and gives you a guage and yarn skein size. I found that many of the projects were in fact two skeins but that is ok since I have a tendency to overbuy. when making a sweater or such to get the dye lot right if I need to adjust the size or make an accessory. So I have one, two or three balls left over often. Just pay attention if you purchase lux yarn, there is not that much on a skein. The toys are just too cute and I made a bunch of the scrutchies.

I have all the One-Skein Wonders books, but this is the only one completely using Crochet. Like the other books, there are colored photos of each project. There are patterns for all different weights of yarn and most patterns also have a chart. The instructions are clear. I haven't made many patterns in the book yet, but so far I have found no errors.This is a great way to use up your yarn stash! Most knitting or crochet books only have a few patterns and with 101 in this (and all the One-Skein Wonder books) there's plenty to choose from. It's a huge 286 page book and has an Appendix that explains all the different stitches and has abbreviations for them along with a symbol key for using charts and an Index so you can look up every project and every stitch.I'm posting a photo of the Sea Breeze Shawlette (enlarged to show detail). :-)

Brought this for my mother, the steps for the patterns are super easy to understand and it's a great book. Would wholeheartedly recommend this

As a very experienced crocheter I first purchased this on Kindle and was delighted with it. Suitable for both experienced and learners, the patterns are well explained and it is extremely helpful to have symbols as well as written instructions. I learned two new stitches from the book (which surprised me) so well done to the authors. I then decided to purchase it in hard copy as well so that I could keep it for reference for years to come as it is easy reading and quite inspirational. I had never purchased a book both on Kindle and hard copy prior to this. Thank you.
