New Made Item: This is the highest quality U.S. WWII crusher cap on the market today. This is the classic "bomber pilot" headgear, worn by USAAF pilots in Europe and the Pacific! Actually, this was the standard Army/AAF officer's dress cap, worn by pilots and non-pilots alike, but pilots gave this cap their own unique twist. Normally, this cap had stiffeners -- a support piece behind the cap device and a wire around the inside top perimeter to maintain the cap's round shape. These kept the cap in its proper, regulation military shape and angle. However, since bomber pilots wore headsets over their caps during flights, they would remove the wire stiffener to make headset wear more comfortable, causing the sides of the caps to become crushed. Eventually, the caps retained their floppy "crushed" look, giving the pilot who wore it the look of a seasoned veteran. The crush cap identified its wearer as an experienced pro, and was as much a part of his identity as his leather flight jacket. The crush cap look quickly became popular with ground army officers and general officers. The IMA Crush Caps recreate that "50 Mission" look without having to fly 50 missions. The OD green caps were worn with the winter uniform and are most often associated with the European theater, while the khaki caps were worn with the summer uniform and are most often associated with the Pacific theater. Cap features cotton twill construction, all leather visor, sweatband, chinstrap, "gold plate" eagle buttons, and "gold plate" metal eagle badge.

EXCELLENT REPRODUCTION
This cap is an excellent reproduction of WWII Officer's Air Corps headgear...It comes in Mint condition, but can be easily "roughed up" a bit, for a "lived in" look...As a photographer, I was totally impressed with the fine quality and attention to detail...This piece is made so well, that even close-up photos seem authentic to the last detail...My compliments to International Military Antiques, Inc.

WWII Captains Hat
My father was a B-25 pilot and West Point graduate and he brought one of these hats home from the service. After I got out of college, I picked up the nickname Captain Ron and started wearing his hat with a kahki shirt with epaulets and had created an identity for myself. His hat was a bit small and I just wore it out. I got one of these to replace the one I had and it is just great, just like the original and I am in the process of wearing this one out and hope to get another!

Almost perfect.
It is a very nice, high quality materials and detailed reproduction of the original. However, the sizes are way off from what they should be. I've worn 7 1/2 since my late teens, it was also the size I wore for headgear while in the military. These caps are at least two sizes off from actual. The 7 1/2 I ordered was more like an 8, so I ordered a 7 thinking it would be just right. The 7 was more like a 6 1/2. No go there either. I might try for a 7 1/4, maybe this time will be right? Still thinking about it.Its been a week since my second return so I'm waiting on notice of my refund, the first one took also a little over a week. The return process is fairly easy but you get the return charge taken from your refund. Not too keen on that since the delivery charge is around $8 and you pay half that on the return. So it goes. But still, as a collectible or as an accessory for cosplay or reenactments, it is spot on. As I mentioned earlier the quality is there, no doubt about it.So far dealing with the seller has been good as well as the returns, is just the size issue and the cost that keeps me from giving it 5 stars.EDIT 8/20/21I did order another fir a third time and this time it was just right. The pros;It is a beautifully crafted cap, with all the authentic details of an original. The eagle crest is finely detailed and nicely polished. The materials are of great quality, sure to last with plenty of wear. The cons; You gotta make sure to order one size smaller than your usual hat size. As mentioned in my earlier review, it was too extreme on either side til I got it right on the third try. Also, the cap comes with a foam crest stiffener that is easily removed, but also with a wire stiffener that is slightly trickier to remove. Even after removed, the cap holds it's original shape so you won't get that 'crush cap' look. The cover cloth is nice but very stiff and only by wringing it or rough handling it is the only way to soften it, and even then I dont think it will give much.So it will look more 'relaxed' (and easier to wear with headphones), but not the sloppy worn look you see from original WWII pics. I had another one from a different company that did had the sloppy broken in look, but the cloth material and color (wool, and light OD green) weren't right at all. So this one is as close to the ones I've seen in museums and by actual veterans who wore one.So, to sum it up, if it had been like $20 or so cheaper I think it would've been fair all around. But compared to other alternatives I've had or seen, it IS the best value for your money if you want as close as possible in authenticity to the original. Just remember, one quarter size smaller than usual and you'll be fine.

Not as-advertised
Well-constructed hat BUT sizing is off (I'm a perfect 7 1/2 and fit was more like 7 5/8 or larger). Also, color in pics looks like a Olive Drab (OD) but color I received was more of a chocolate brown. Amazon did process refund without fuss, but several days passed between tracked delivery date and actual credit. All-in-all, product and purchasing experience was "meh".

Very nice piece.
Not sure exactly why, but I've always wanted a "crush" for my collection. When a need arose, I went searching and found this one. It is a very nice hat. Some adjustment was needed to give it a full crush look. It shipped with the stiff wire ring inserted. Bending that did very little to assist. Once it was removed, the cap didn't remain stiff enough and would adjust itself with every turn of the head. After some trial and error, I added thin foam pieces to either side. I rounded them (using the wire ring as a template) and used a heat gun to give them a permanent curl effect. The stiff plastic piece holding the insignia in place also needed some adjustment (shortened slightly and reinserted). The final effect is a nice crush cap that will work well for my needs. And later just to fill that collectable desire.

NOT a “crush” cap
The material is extremely rigid and springs immediately back to its original shape when bending it, and cannot be removed without heavily cutting and then resewing it. There is no way the product I received is what is pictured

Great item, high quality, true to size. Perfect for the WWII pilot Halloween costume, or for a re-enactor. Wire inside cap removable, just like the originals. The usual, high quality from this supplier!
