It has wonderful clear and concise instructions with step by step photographs of each project. This book is a great introduction for young fashionistas who wish to build on their sewing skills and get into garment sewing. They have taken three basic foundation garments ( top, skirt, and shorts) and provided multiple options that create a variety of different garments that are only limited to the sewer's imagination. The authors provide eleven lessons that take you through basic fashion design rules, measuring, hemming, and even some basic fitting. Students can then take these foundation skills to create 11 different design options that turn 3 ordinary garments to the extraordinary such as creating a hoodie from the TurnStyle Top. The book is full of skill building tips, fashion vocabulary, and fashion templates where students can create their own unique designs. It also includes three extra projects that make wonderful accessories to go with the garments or as a stand alone item. There are full sized patterns included that are easily traceable and can be reused over and over. This book is a great way to teach kids to sew with simple beginner garment projects. A Big Winner for this Sewing School Series !!!

Excellent beginner sewing book!
I am teaching my 5 grandchildren how to sew. I bought this book to help me with successful project right from the start. All of the girls made their own hat and are very proud of it. I did offer assistance but this was expected as this was the first thing some of them have sewn. Some wire their hat to church on Sunday and brought it on vacation too. The projects are well thought out and the directions are easy to follow with great success. I’m so happy I bought this book. My granddaughters are 7-10 years old. My grandson wants to make a hat too now that he saw his sisters. I’ll adapt the pattern so it has straighter lines for him. The children are so excited to make a skirt next. We meet on Sundays for 3-4 hours and the time flys by. They never want to leave Grammy’s house:). We do stop for a healthy snack in the middle. I’m thrilled I found this book on line!!

Great book for sewers and those learning to sew.
Enjoying this book. It helps your sewing skills and your creativity. It is also a good book to help you teach young girls to learn to sew. I was sewing for children and found this book.

Good information for beginners
I really like the spiral binding, so that it lays flat while I work and learn. It has information for beginners .

Here's a secret: These patterns can work for adults too!
I saw that Aimee Plumley notes on her blog that these patterns work for "small adults" and she is a size Large. I found this hard to believe so cut out an XL turnstyle top/dress and then realized it was too big and that the L dress would work perfectly for me. I bought the book to sew with my kids, but as a bonus the patterns look like they will work for me too! Seriously the easiest and most comfortable woven-fabric dress pattern I have ever seen and it looks cute and stylish. Basically all straight lines except a gentle curve on the neck and a small pivot at the arm. It is like how kids' cookbooks are sometimes the easiest and best cuisine.
