Love love love this awesome book. I even learned some tips reading it with my daughter!

This book is absolutely amazing and a really fun read. We originally got this at the library and of all the books we have read from the library we have never gone and gotten a copy for ourselves to keep but they were so many things in this book I kept referring to as well as things we kept discussing after reading it that we wanted to read it again together. One thing I will note is that a lot of the negative reviews are specific to kids that have confidence issues possibly because they are queer. It astounds me to this day that people do not understand that kids who are queer have a enormously higher suicide rate then non-queer kids, mostly because their families do not accept them for who they are nor would they likely be open to even hearing who they are. It's really sad to me that people from conservative families think that gayness is somehow not biological. It's like rejecting a kid for being born with freckles or red hair. At any rate if you are a parent who loves your child regardless of their biological traits, this book will be right up your alley. I learned a lot from it myself and it really helped my daughter when dealing with some difficult situations at school. There are a lot of kids these days who don't really understand boundaries and consent and this is a book that really takes a deep dive into that. Yes there is mention of cell phones and she is still too young to have one at 11 years old for our family, but I do acknowledge and do not judge other families who need their kids to have one for their own reasons. We read those parts anyway to prepare her for when she has a cell phone. Anyway I can't recommend this book enough and the accompanying journal. And I will pray for all the people who are on here leaving negative reviews simply because they have been taught to fear anything that isn't fitting into their tiny little box. Actually I won't pray for them but I will pray for their kids. I hope they find the acceptance and love they deserve, whether they are straight, gay, or somewhere in between.

    Truly a Must Read!

Heard this book was great; got it for my 11-yr old daughters, and that weekend they both set all new personal best times at a swim meet. When I asked them how they did that, they said because they read the Confidence Code for Girls! They said they thought about facing and racing and besting their fears! This book is no set of empty platitudes, it's actual real-life knowledge about how awesome girls are despite a history of cultural bias, and also about neuroplasticity and Title IX and the perils of screen addiction. It revs the reader up to be a "Girl of Action," through compelling stories conveying the importance of being yourself and valuing yourself and making yourself heard; the benefits of playing team sports (more open to trying and more resilient to failing, more likely to graduate college, and to earn lucrative salaries in typically male-dominated fields); the benefits of friendship (lowers heart disease, produces oxytocin, limits stress, lengthens life); and includes plenty of fun suggestions as to how to go about making new friendships. With super cute illustrations. I love this book, and think every girl in the world should read it.

    A MUST-read for tween girls!

*by D***R on Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2018*

The Confidence Code for Girls is an essential read for every girl in her tween years. By bringing attention to girls’ inner experience of gaining and utilizing confidence, the authors not only clearly identify what confidence is comprised of, they guide and instruct the reader on how to cultivate it by challenging the common obstacles of this age. Quite similar to the cognitive-behavioral approach of therapy, this book encourages girls to take action despite unhelpful thinking patterns, to be unafraid of failure, and to challenge the worries that hold so many girls back in a real and direct way. It also provides excellent guidance on how to navigate the often judgmental and provoking world of social media. Presented in a relatable and engaging manner, girls will develop a much deeper understanding of what it means to be themselves and express that confidently. My experience as a psychologist specializing in anxiety has taught me that just as anxiety breeds self-doubt, self-doubt breeds anxiety, and the opposite of both is confidence. I am inspired by what the authors have done in offering such a tremendous guidebook that I am sure tween girls will reference time and time again in their journey to forming a solid, confident self.
