Good Heavy Duty Bear Bag
I dislike having to pay $$$ for a bear bag in general - yes, I am VERY familiar with other options, but still... - but this bag did it's job against woodland creatures. We are not in grizzly country, but black bear and did not encounter the bag being roughed up by any bear. It would make sense for the bag to be of a lighter color (e.g. so it would not retain heat from the sun for non-perishable items such as bug spray) and viability, but understand the company no longer manufactures the white ones. Note: make sure wherever you are heading out, what type of container you need as some areas require a bear container vs a bear bag. Happy Trails!

Excellent Product
I have 2 of these bags that I’ve used in the backcountry during backpacking trips. They are super sturdy. They must be used with odor proof inserts in order to keep animals from smelling the contents of the bag. The bag itself is made to withstand an animal trying to get into it. I believe it is sturdy enough to do that. Thus far I have not a had an incident of an animal getting into or trying to get into the bag. The only downside is the bag is on the heavy side but lighter and more packs less than a beat canister.

Ursack Failed to Prevent Bear from Tearing through Bag and lead to a 20 minute Bear Encounter!
The Ursack is NOT BEAR PROOF!!! I purchased the Ursack to pair with the OPSAK in preparation to hike four sections of the Colorado trail this past July. Within a couple of days the upper corner of the OPSAK TORE below the zipper. I handled the bag gently, with care and placed appropriate amounts of items in each. I was NOT rough or overstuffing with food or materials. I was nervous about this as this was my protection against bears. I inspected my friend’s OPSAK’s sides and noticed it had much thicker crimping compared to mine which hardly had any. The last night we were on trail a bear successfully tore through my Ursack and feasted. This led to a 20 minute bear encounter for me and my friends!!! This was dangerous for us, the bear, and future hikers in that area. I am 100% disappointed in both the OPSAK and the Ursack as they were a complete failure and did not fulfill their promises, rather we were left in harm's way. Where I trusted this combination, OPSAK failed to ensure a quality product, and the bear tore through the Ursack. Unfortunately, I could not snap a photo of the hole the bear tore in the Ursack as we were busy trying to scare the bear off. The bear would leave, giving us time to gather our supplies, including the bag it had ripped into and feasted upon, only for it to immediately return. After 20 minutes in the pitch dark and what looked like a change in disposition of curiosity to a charging position, we gave up and threw the bag with the food in the bear's direction. Only then, were we able to leave safely.

great for backpacking
I've used this bag on a 5-day backpacking trip in Colorado USA. I packed enough food for probably 8 days. This bag was just a little small for that much food and other odoriferous items. Be sure you know how to tie the proper knots when using this bag and attaching it to a tree. 2 double overhand knots to sinch the bag tightly and one figure eight knot to attach to tree. Didn't have any problems with critters on my first and only trip so far. Will update later after a few more trips.

Water gets in
There is no way to hang this bag upside down, and the opening does not seal completely, so in heavy rain, water runs down the tie cord into the bag when hung at night. For the price, it would seem there should be a way to hang it upside down, or seal the opening.

Peace of mind.
I hope I never have to test this company's bear proof guarantee. But it gives me peace of mind to know I have options for securing my food when backpacking.

Perfect for hiking and light weight enough for backpacking.

Bad choice of color
The only color this Ursack comes in is black. The manufacturer could not have come up with a worse color. You can't see inside the bag even in bright sunshine and the contents get hot in the sun. A friend has an older Ursack that is white, it's easy to see the contents and stays cooler in the sun. I would recommend backpackers not buy this product until they offer it in white again. The manufacturer needs to wise up! It also seems way over priced for the quality.
