I like using these straps to take some of the load off the hinges. They mount inside the cooler and keep the cooler lid from putting too much weight on the hinge.

I bought these wire lid straps to replace my broken plastic strap on my Igloo cooler at the same time I was installing replacement stainless steel hinges, also purchased on Amazon. These wire straps are nice quality, easy to install, a perfect fit, and far superior to the original plastic strap that breaks easily. With a new wire strap and stainless steel hinges installed, my old Igloo Cooler should be good for another 40 years. My only negative comment is that I wish these were available in a 1-pack at a cheaper price as I didn't need two straps.

The original strap kept breaking and I kept replacing it. A broken strap means that the lid will open too far and break the hinges. While I can see some care in keeping the wire away from the edge when closing, this wire should last the life of the cooler. Unfortunately it come in a package of two, and now I'll have to find a friend who needs a strap.
