I have one per room and each room is 200-300 sq ft. They run a LOT and my ele bill is no better off than before. I cannot imagine trying to heat 1000 sq ft. Perhaps in a room that is extremely well insulated with a very very low ceiling - and where it doesn't get below 50 F. I do not recommend this or any other infrared heater. **Q: The description says infrared heater heats up objects, not air. Yet this unit has a fan to distribute hot air. I see a contradiction here.** A: In reality all these so called IR heaters are fan forced convection heaters. If they didn't heat the air in the room the room wouldn't be very comfortable. All this malarkey about two kinds of heat is carefully worded to imply some sort of increased efficiency and just increases the complexity of the heater. I would choose this heater over the EdenPure but the truth is I would choose neither because of the price and the hype that they are somehow more efficient than other 1500 watt heaters. **Q: Can the heater be plugged in to a corded surge strip or does it have to be plugged directly into a wall outlet?** A: To avoid the unit resetting and showing 90 in the display, you must plug it directly into a properly wired wall outlet directly. My iHeater 1500 by Holmes kept resetting this year and I was about to trash it when I simply tried a new wall outlet. So, if your unit runs briefly and then shuts down or resets try an outlet with no adapter, power strip, or extension cord and see if that gets it working for you again. **Q: what is cost of electricity ?** A: zoncustomer... you are confusing two separate things. HIs electricity is costing him 14 cents per killowatt (use one kilowatt for an hour and it costs you 14 cents).
