Bill **Q: The cutting 'sled' sticks to the aluminum guiderail. Also impossible to cut. What is the best corrective action ? Filing the black plastic guides ?** A: Are you referring to the straight cutter or the angled cutter? Either way I would NOT modify the product. I tested mine and found that with the angled cutter there is some drag but a little wax on the guiderail should handle the problem. If you're storing it in high humidity environment it may be the causative factor. I hope this will help. Bill **Q: Will this cut a 3/16 inch mounting board?** A: I own a 440-1, and if you mean 3/16 foam core - yes, the mat knife will allow you to cut this type of mounting board to size with a perpendicular cut. Just in case, I've never tried to do a bevel cut into mounting board, but I have a feeling that's not what you want to do. Make sure not to over-tighten the screw on the mat knife, I learned the hard way. I put cardboard beneath the mat boards. It is easy to hold and to cut. The mat board might move around a bit, so do not cut too fast, pay more attention to holding on tight. Also, if you have thick cardboard like me, it does not hurt to set the cut a bit deeper than necessary. If you expect your mat to be perfect, I do recommend some practice. When you first push the blade down, if the mat is thick and tough, the blade might push your hand backwards; so it is important to try and get used to it. I personally do not care much. If the mat does not look good enough, I just use paint to cover the problems up. To order one mat online may cost me 30 or 40 dollars. I already cut 5 mats so far and I am very happy to be able to save the money. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ works well. *by M***A on June 25, 2025* works exceptional.
