IN FRENCH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES In these newly remastered HD filmed adaptations of Georges Simenons bestselling crime novels, international film star Bruno Cremer (The Octopus, Sorcerer) brings the beloved Parisian Inspector Maigret to life. Sporting his pipe that seems a nod to Sherlock Holmes, the pragmatic and refined Maigret investigates murders in his singular unhurried manner and inevitably discovers the truth. To crack his cases, he peels back the veneer of seemingly idyllic villages and neighborhoods, exposing the criminals who lurk in all levels of society. Against a backdrop of 1950s Paris and the surrounding French countryside, these original feature-length films pay homage to one of the most brilliant detective minds of the twentieth century. This set includes: Maigret in Montmartre Maigret and the Burglars Wife Maigret and the Flemish Shop Maigret and the Judge Maigret and the Headless Corpse Maigret at the Crossroads Maigret and the Majestic Maigret on Trial Maigret's Patience Maigret and the Man on the Bench Maigret and the Reluctant Witnesses Maigret and the Ghost Maigret and the No. 1 Lock Maigret and the Spinster Maigrets War of Nerves Maigrets Mistake Maigret and the Old Lady Maigret and the Candle Auction No Vacation for Maigret Maigret is Afraid Maigret Goes Home Maigret and the Death of a Harbor Master Maigret in Finland Maigret Sets a Trap Maigret and the Elusive Witness Maigret and the Liberty Bar Maigret and the Vanishing Mr. Owen Maigret Versus Mr. Cavre Mrs. Four and Her Children Death in a Vegetable Garden First Class Murder Maigret Sees Double Maigret and the Rich Maigret and the Fortune Hunter My Friend Maigret Maigret and the Open Window Maigret and the Wine Merchant Maigret and the Minister Maigret and the Madman of Saint Clothilde Maigret goes to School Felicies House Maigret and the Princess To Any Lengths Maigrets Failure Maigrets Boyhood Friend Maigret Has Scruples Little Pigs Without a Tail Maigret and the Tramp A Shadow in the Courtyard Maigret at the Doctor's Maigret Rents a Room The Lady's Companion Seven Little Crosses Maigret at the Etoile du Nord

Perhaps the best Maigret interpretation yet?
A wonderfully evocative series that brings to life the essence of Simenon's Maigret. The 1970s BBC R4 series (with Maurice Denham and Michael Gough) is good and both Michael Gambon's and Rowan Atkinson's two versions are also excellent in their own, differing, ways, though sadly disappointing in their limited coverage of the entire series of original novels. Bruno Cremer's and fellow stars' superb performances, coupled with the 'authentic' setting and the French dialogue (with captions) is highly convincing and is arguably the best version of all.

We like this series
Great series and so good to be able to watch this very clever team at work. We feel, almost, a bit sad, we only discovered this version of Maigret recently. Subtitles seem to be as helpful as such can be. Needs overseas dvd player to work. The late, Bruno Cremer is quite brilliant in the title role. (Does/did, use his pipe very often, so if you do not like smoking it might surprise you.)Expensive for 30 DVDs, but worth it we feel.

You need a region free player for this excellent set
Possibly the most authentic of Maigret adaptations. Excellent complete boxed set well worth seeking out if you have a region free player.I have been unable to watch the episodes on Talking Pictures TV as my signal is so weak, so am thrilled to now be able to catch up with all episodes.

Timeless, visceral and brilliant
Have now watched the first 12 'cases' and have been gobsmacked at the timelessness of the production. The late Carl Bremer is without doubt the best Inspector Maigret ever! Looking forward to the remaining cases

The Best Maigret
Greaty improved tranfers of the Cremer Maigret series, although some of the ratios have now been changed to fit the 16:9 ratio. The main issues are two: subtitles are embedded and frequently mistranslated.

Extremely good and very good value
We have had a few DVDS of this brilliant French version of the Maigret stories. The French, in my opinion, have done a much better job than the British versions. Bruno Cremer is outstanding as Maigret and the seedy nature of the Paris underground is well done and contrasts with the strange life of the better off when Maigret investigates in that setting. However, the subtitles and colour on my DVDs were poor. This version is BRILLIANT. Excellent colour and subtitles. I now have all episodes I was missing and hours of viewing pleasure. This has been a most excellent buy.

The DVD works well, but only on my computer.
The Bruno Cremer Maigret series is excellent, because it is in French with English subtitles, which I don't mind. In addition, each episode is 90minutes long and the actor is very close to the Maigret, that I envisaged in my imagination, whilst reading the books. However, I didn't realise that it could not be played on my DVD player, which is not compatible PAL. Disappointed, I tried it on my computer and with the help of my son, I now watch it happily.
