A really great tribute - not just a picture book
I bought this after seeing it in the documentary “I Am A Cliché” - and sort of assumed it would have great pictures of Poly and X-Ray Spex. And of course it has that - but also many examples of Poly’s art and fashion, poems, and more in depth details and quotes from the many people interviewed in the documentary (such as more details on the Lora Logic firing and (happily) eventual reunion). It’s made me get a little infatuated all over again with Poly and her band, as if I’ve jumped back to being a teen in 1978.

In my opinion Poly Styrene was the greatest female singer of all time
this book is a beautiful insight into an incredibly talented person

Gorgeous Book! WOW!
This book was purchased as a gift for my daughter's 21st birthday. Every year I get her a book that profiles powerful women in music or something about Punk Rock history and this book did not disappoint. She is a massive fan of XRay Spex and she is going to literally freak out when she sees this book! (I have not read this book - this review is based on the superior quality of the book itself. I would not dare crack the spine of a book meant as a gift! LoL!)

A must read for any fan of Punk or of music in general
This book is amazing in how it reads and in what it covers. By stitching together interviews and recollections of so many people who knew Poly, we are treated to a 360 degree understanding of the tortured genius she was and the challenges she faced in her all too brief career. The texture of the period is rich and at times you feel as if you are really in the club seeing the band and sadly you also feel that you are there live witnessing the disintegration of X-Ray Spex. There are so many tidbits of insight into the band and the artist herself that are revelatory. Her lesser known solo efforts are covered and her talent and vision come through. Highly recommend!
