Review: A mystery/detective visual novel with adventure elements. Very addicting - This is a trilogy of the three main games 1, 2 & v3. I won’t go into to much detail about play order as others have already covered that. However I will say while this is a visual novel, there are adventure elements to the games, which I think opens this up to a wider audience than your typical VN. Even if you’re not crazy about visual novels, I think danganronpa might be the exception for you. The games are just addictive, it’s so fun and interesting. I love to find out who these characters are behind their masks, and finding out the motive and everything else. It’s a ton of fun. I highly recommend this series, it’s up there as one of my favorites with Steins;Gate and Chaos;Child. The story that is told in this series does have a few weak points, but it’s the mysteries that make this game so exciting. I implore you to give this a shot, I really think most people who enjoy good stories and mysteries would love this game. It’s a shame I slept on this series for so long. I was about a decade late to the party. As far as the games I think the first one is the best. The second one is good too, the third was my least favorite out of the trilogy if I’m being honest. V3 isn’t bad by any stretch, it’s just compared to the other two mainline games it’s my least favorite. It is however better than Ultra Despair Girls. All in all this is a series worth the time commitment. I spent around 100 hours playing the 3 included in this trilogy. Ultra Despair Girls, while not included, is the shortest at roughly 20 hours. It’s necessary to understand specific components of the danganronpa 3 anime, as well as v3. For those reasons I recommend not skipping Ultra Despair Girls. I know I said I wouldn’t mention play order, but here’s a quick rundown. Danganronpa 1 Danganronpa 2 Ultra despair girls Anime Danganronpa 3 future & despair arcs Danganronpa v3 There are a few light novels included with the games, such as the IF novel following Mukuro, which can be read after clearing the second game. There’s also the Hagakure novel that can be read after the ending of Ultra Despair Girls. Anything else will have to be found online through fan translations. I suggest reading the LN as you’re allowed if they interest you, although I don’t think they’re must reads if you’re not into LN. They do however have visual novel elements such as backgrounds and music. If you have a Switch or plan on getting one, I’d suggest waiting for the new version that will be released in December 2021. It includes all three games listed here, plus an all new summer camp game, and it’s roughly the same price. It’s also the North American version, not that it really makes a difference. Your other option if you’re only able to play on PlayStation would be to check this out in digital. It’s $40 most of the time digitally, but I recently saw it on sale for $20. Ultra despair girls (the game between 2 & v3) was only $15. You can find this in physical, which is what I did as a collector, but you’re going to spend a lot more, and it will more likely than not be the UK edition. The choice is up to you, I just figured I’d let this information be known in hopes that it helps someone. I didn’t find out about the switch 4 in 1 bundle until after I purchased all these separately, so unfortunately for my wallet, I’ll be buying the games twice just to play the new summer camp one. At least they’re for different consoles though, so it doesn’t seem like a total waste. Enjoy danganronpa, it really is an amazingly fun VN series. The second game goodbye despair also has an alternative ending via mini a game for those curious what it would be like if “certain” things didn’t happen, its about an hour long. Pretty cool extras to get into after you finish the main game.
Review: Coolest game ever - I love this game. It’s the best.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Coolest game ever
*by D***S on December 22, 2025*

I love this game. It’s the best.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Please read this if you do not want to ruin this series for yourself (ORDER)
*by O***2 on August 17, 2020*

Despite being packaged together this is not the order to play these games. The following will show you the correct viewing/playing order: 1. Play "Trigger Happy Havoc" (Included) 2. Play "Super Danganronpa 2" (Included) 3. Play "Ultra Despair Girls" (Not included) 4. Watch the "Danganronpa 3: End of Hope's Peak" Anime alternating between Future and Despair Arcs (Ex. Future ep1-)Despair ep1-)Future ep2-)Despair ep2-)and so on) (Not included) 5. Watch the "Hope Arc" finale to the same Anime (Not included) 6. Watch the 2.5 OVA featuring Nagito for the same Anime (Not included) 7. Play "Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony" (Included) Despite the order of this franchise, there are other important things to know. If you hate reading, this might not be for you, as the game is a visual novel (comparable to Steins: Gate and Ace Attorney in the visual novel aspect, however i've found people who have played Persona fine with the reading aspect). If you stick with it, you'll enjoy it. Other questions might include: "What about the Animation?" To offer a completely non-biased viewpoint i'll explain. "Danganronpa The Animation," is simply the first game "Trigger Happy Havoc" but condensed into an Anime. The Anime is a retelling of the game, however it is quite rushed and doesn't include much of the game's dialogue and character bonding events (more on that later). Many consider the game to be a superior way of telling the story, and since you are buying the trilogy; trust me, you're getting your money's worth. The games can be played on a US PS4, based on my experience, without any difficulty. This series is very spoiler heavy, I do not recommend looking up anything relating to Danganronpa on YT unless it's a walkthrough, as you will immediately get spoilers to the first game and later installments. However, for some streamers due to how spoiler heavy the games are this might be important to know: Any events taken place after Chapter 1 are considered blocked scenes for each game. This also applies to Shareplay games with a friend, it simply won't be possible after Chapter 1, which is something me and my friend excessively tried to fix. For anyone who does want to play this series with a friend, however, there are plenty of walkthroughs on YouTube which you guys can watch together, and you can still play it in your free time. As in terms of the gameplay, it is comparable to a hard M rated Ace Attorney game. Every game has a prologue, 6 Chapters, and an epilogue. In each game, you and your classmates are trapped in some remote location (For TTH and V3 it's a school, for SDR2 it's an island), and cannot escape. The exception to this is of course the main draw to this game: the murder mysteries. In order to escape their whereabouts, a student must kill another classmate. Each game has several sections: Daily Life, Free Time, Investigation/Deadly Life, and the Class Trial. If the "blackened" can deceive every one else, then they graduate, however if they are found out then they are "punished" accordingly. During the investigations, you gather clues to use in the class trial. The class trial itself is fully dubbed, and is the climax of each chapter (for the most part). I won't expand on all the game's mechanics in the class trials, but you use "word bullets" to shoot down your classmates' statements. Free Time is akin to any dating sim portion, as you choose wisely who to spend time with during each Chapter and find out more regarding that specific student. You use "monocoins" gained in the class trials in the school store, to exchange them for presents instead. These presents can be used during any free time section to rapidly boost you and that student's bond. Some of these free time sections are lost during certain Chapters, due to how the murder system works, as well as the impacts that can have on certain students. For example, during Chapter 3 of the first game, one student's free time events are locked, despite still being alive (You'll see what I mean after you get there). Free Time is skipable, should you only wish to experience the main story by sleeping in your bed. Once you complete one of the games, you unlock a bonus mode to work on these free time events exclusively. The final thing I'll mention is the game's rating. While the blood may be pink, it still is gruesome when you consider some of the body discoveries. The strong language is very vulgar (especially in v3 portrayed through Miu's character). Please understand that if you are buying this for a child, make sure they are at least 16+ as the label suggests. With all those statements aside, this game series should not be missed.
