Interesting angle karambit, but a bit pricey.
I've been carrying the Fox 599 for a few years and only had one thing I'd really like to change about it. That would be the clip. Traditional pocket clips are sharp against the leather of a car seat or a low sports car steering wheel. Fox puts a wire clip on a lot of models, but not on the 599 or 479. This Bastinelli Mako, made by Fox, has the same type of wire clip as my Fox Suru. Very friendly to leather. The straighter angle of this karambit still seems to be fine for traps and your typical karambit use. I wish they had a trainer in this profile like the 479 and 599.Pocket deployment is easy if you are used to wave style openers like the Fox 479, 599, Emerson's, Cold Steel Ti-Lite, etc. If this is new to you, just be sure to follow the back edge towards the pocket edge, that way it consistently snags and deploys. Just some practice and it'll be second nature. I typically use the front coin/watch pocket, as it is shallow, unused, and perfect for smaller blades like this.Price. This thing isn't cheap. I had been hunting for a used one for a few months, but finally gave in and ordered new. About a week later, I see a used one on eBay. Such is life! At the new MSRP you really need to be into karambits, as this is a pretty basic plastic/zytel handle and a liner lock. The steel is N690Co, so nothing to be excited at for the steel enthusiasts. Luckily edge retention isn't really a concern, as this knife isn't meant for utilitarian uses. The negative is paying this much for something that could be sold for sub $100. I understand the reasoning, as they will not sell as many of these as they will more traditional blades. So the smaller group of customers will have to pay more due to the higher margin required.

better than the Emerson wave
I gave this as a gift. The Bram Frank opener on this is, in my opinion, superior to the Emerson Wave. But, it will take a lot of practice if you wear loose fitting clothes like sweats. It works great with jeans. For mine, the blade was very sharp from the factory, including the point. The opening action is great. The ring is well rounded on the inside and the outside, which makes it very comfortable to have a finger in the ring. But I'm not sure how practical that is with this blade shape; it makes a lot more sense with a standard karambit. The fit and finish on mine was great. The bevel is even side-to-side, it sits perfectly centered when the blade is folded, the liner lock fits well against the blade with no wiggle. The blade, itself, is very thin. I worry that it might not last, especially given its very fine point. And the liner lock is very thin. Given the price I paid for this, I'm disappointed by the thin lock and blade. It really feels like the price reflects the Bastinelli name rather than the materials. A great conversation piece.

Perfect for EDC
I train Marcaida Kali so I have experience with straight blades and karambits. I've been looking for a good straight blade karambit and this is definitely the one for me. Feels great in the hand, came extremely sharp and can function like a straight blade, with all the functionalities of a karambit. I'm probably going to pick up another one at some point.

A Bit Awkward to Open
It's a cool little knife. Sharp with nice ascetics. It's a bit clunky to draw out of the pocket... it catches. And it is harder to open than seems proper. It has a bit of a 'personality' and sometimes opens easily and sometimes flat refuses. Overall I like it.

5 Star construction 3 Star design
I received this knife in error. I ordered the fixed blade Mako but received this one and will be returning it for the knife I wanted. With that said I did check it out and put it through the paces of "Well I mean it's here why not just keep it?" because I Love Knives.Good hand size. Fits really well. Blade is sharp. Feels sturdy. No rattling or give that I could find. Fits in the pocket very well. The ring gives a great pull point for easy deployment... of the handle.Hey I gave it 4 stars here is why as everything is great as near as I can tell. How do I deploy the blade effectively? If I pull the knife in reverse grip (as a defensive pull of the knife would typically be) I have to try to flip the blade open with my pinky while keeping all of my other fingers out of the way and that is somewhat awkward as my pinky is fairly weak in this action and my other fingers have a tendency to curl in.OK, fine. Don't hold a reverse grip do a standard blade forward grip. But now how do I quickly pull the knife out of my pocket. I have to get my pinky in the ring. Do I slip my pinky in the ring an pull out because my pinky is not that dexterous. Maybe I disregard the ring and pinky and grip the ring a bit with my ring finger then slip my pinky in the ring while deploying the knife. I guess that could work but so many moving fingers for the deployment of (arguably) a defensive knife. So 5 Stars for the blade construction and feel. 3 Stars for design and effective use of design. Averaging to 4 Stars. It is possible that if I had wanted this knife I could have developed the muscles and muscle memory for deployment of the blade that I have for my other flippers (I do love flipper blades). But I don't know so there is my review.
