Elinchrom EL 20487.1 D-Lite RX 400ws Compact with Built-In Skyport (reflector not included)

First of all, even if some product literature or reviewers claim this is an entry level Elinchrom product it is NOT because it is built like a tank!.I dropped once from 3 feet high on the carpet accidentally only 100W Tungsten modeling light went bad because of the shock. Not even a dent or intermittent operation was noted on the strobe. Highly recomended especially the Built-in EL-Skyport receiver for on camera triggering is amazing, great range too! No need to be worried if the batteries are fresh in radio receivers anymore.This is not my first monolight from Elinchrom. I bought a year ago a portrait kit featuring 2 softboxes and 2 Dlite RX400ws strobes from B&H for a great price. It will not measure up to Bowens and other high end street editorial lighting equipment but those will do very well for beauty glamour and boudoir, portraiture and more. Can be used with umbrellas as well. 400joules has a serious punch and the reliability and recharge speed is great especially in half power (2.5 stop level) you can pop this baby with the same consistent power and light quality at the rate of every quarter of the second. Great for speed shooters.You can tell it is well designed because they included even a spare fuse in the handle. Not that you will ever need to replace. This baby has thermal shutdown and built in fan that kicks in once in a while when you really abuse it at the high stops and pop them at a high rate.Time to retire my SP system lancer monolight and the other 320w/s Square Perfect models I used since 2008. They don't even compare to this product.The locking mechanism for speed rings and softboxes is sometime can feel as a tight fit. it get's a bit tricky to mount and dismount but you will get to use to it after a while.90 V to 240 V operation will allow to use this baby in any country if you are a traveling photographer.I bought this third strobe to outfit with my Fotodiox 22" beauty dish with Elinchrom speed ring that can be easily mounted with 4 thumbscrews.it works great for contrasty results for product photography especially with the honycomb filter.I used 2 Elinchrome D-Lite RX 400ws sets over 6 hours taking pictures non stop during social gathering events and never had any problem or misfires. They serve me very well. Highly recommended.

This was not a new product,Finger prints on the bulb, and Bulb box was ripped open, it was poorly packaged, Not a good experience. Also missing a flash ring, the power cable port was loose. I suspect someone used this a few times and tried to sell it for new.On the other hand,From what I have read and researched about the Elichrom lights are good quality. I look forward to trying out another.

Do not purchase from Adorama...Adorama sent me a D-Lite RX 200ws head in a 400ws box........ When I called about possibly getting it exchanged for another 400ws head the sales associate replied "I'm sorry we don't have any other 400ws heads by any other companies". I checked after the call just to be sure and their website had plenty. Talk about working for a Camera company and not knowing the product.*************Aside from the terrible service, I know the light is great. I have the model prior to this one and use it daily. Elinchrome make great products, just be sure not to purchase it from Adorama.Update **People are bashing my review stating that I am bashing the light rather than the company.... That is completely untrue, just above I explain that this is an amazing product! I am just recommending not to purchasing it from Adorama, because they are an incompetent company.

An amazing purchase. The product works just fine, it's easy to use, its power is enough for almost every studio shoot i need, and the price was right, considering elinchrom's manufacturing.The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because it only accepts elinchrom (not universal) umbrellas. Compatibillity will be an issue.

I'm giving the Elinchrom D-lite 4's and the D-Lite RX 400ws both a solid 5 stars because they work and have not failed me even though they have been abused by me, clients and my assistants.I originally purchased these as portable lights because they were fairly inexpensive and wouldnt be too hard to replace if dropped. They have survived many bumps, drops, a rain shower and even a fully extended stand being knocked over. I also bought 2 spare flash bulbs but haven't needed to unbox them yet.I am sure that experiences will vary but the set I have is durable and works when I turn them on despite my best efforts to break them. To me the value of a product is in its performance and without any hesitation I offer my recommendation for both the D-lite 4's and the D-Lite RX 400ws.I do recall having an issue with my purchase that was resolved quickly. I ordered the kit with stands but received the kit w/o stands. I contacted the seller and received the stands a few days later without any problem.I use them in 110v and 220v outlets all the time (currently living in Italy) and if you are going to use them in 220v make sure you remove the modeling bulb!

I love this strobe. Elinchrom products are really excellent in quality and design. The fact that the strobe comes with built in skyport is a big plus and money saving. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for good quality strobe and functional device.
