Last Days of The Clone Wars
Before I go into this review I should point out that yes, this comic is a bit open-ended. If you want to see where Maul goes next he does show up in Disney's Star Wars Rebels cartoon. That being said, this collection is actually a reprinting by Marvel of a comic originally published by Dark Horse, the previous license holders for Star Wars comics. The story is adapted from drafts of some unproduced episodes of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon in production before it's cancellation. The story is all about Darth Maul, as he fights to get revenge on his former Master. But as war rages, does Maul truly have the upper hand? This comic is amazing. Each issue feels like an episode of the show, and it works better for it. Even though it would have been great to see this story in The Clone Wars show, it's still nice to have a comic this good instead. The Clone Wars may be over now, but for many Star Wars fans it's legacy will never be forgotten.5/5

Maul's Story from the Clone Wars Television Series Continues in this Comic
First things first, I'm reviewing this book as someone with only a passing knowledge of the Clone Wars and Rebels television shows. Fans of the series will absolutely enjoy this book more than I did (just judging by some of the other Amazon reviews), but for those who haven't seen the show like myself then this book is not for you. Son of Dathomir takes place during the Clone Wars after the events of the show (Maul was revealed to have survived his encounter with Obi Wan, he and his brother joined forces with Maul's mother to oppose the Republic and the Confederacy, Maul's brother was killed during a confrontation with Sidious) and sees Maul as Sidious' prisoner. The forces that had assembled under the brothers and Maul's mother (Talzin) free Maul and hope to continue the expansion of their fledgling criminal empire. Sidious hopes to use the Separatist forces to wipe out Talzin (who he sees as the bigger threat) and sends Dooku and Grievous to deal with Maul's forces. The battle pins Maul in until finally Talzin is drawn out and the two groups have a final showdown. The comic is absolutely meant to connect Maul's story from the Clone Wars show with his future appearances in Rebels so again this is really a book written for fans of those shows. There are numerous references to and characters from the series so again while the book is entertaining and features some cool action it will be lost on those who aren't familiar with the show.

Finishing the story arc from the clone wars
Star Wars: Darth Maul Son of Dathomir picks up where the clone wars left off. Bridging the gap between Clone Wars and Rebels. You follow Darth Maul who's become a leader of a criminal syndicate. Follow him on his quest of revenge. The comic feels and reads like clone wars lost episodes that were never made. Darth Maul get more character development written very well. The art is well drawn and colored. Reading this made me love Darth Maul as a character. Before he was the guy that looked cool and was brought back from the dead because he looks cool. To one of the more developed star wars characters. Hands down one of the best star wars comics on the market. Couldn't recommend more.

Great story, but sub-par art.
The artist in question for this miniseries either couldn't get permission to use Sir Christopher Lee's likeness, or simply couldn't draw him to look like either the actor or as the character appeared in The Clone Wars cartoons to save his life. It becomes such an odd distraction (due in part to the fact that no other character fails to resemble their film/television counterpart), that I started to notice other failings of the book that I might not have otherwise. For example, for a comic book made to act as a replacement for an unmade The Clone Wars story arc, it certainly fails to convey the exciting, fluid action of the lightsaber fights that this particular animated series excelled at. I still hold out hope that this miniseries is adapted into a two-episode story arc in Star Wars: The Clone Wars; The Final Season.

Dialog Inconsistency w/characters, great artwork
I understand the vision George Lucas and Dave Filoni had for this arc when it was created, but I feel this comic book, particularly the dialog, doesn’t reflect true Star Wars as much. There are some lines that I personally don’t feel characters would actually say in the way they do in the comic so it disrupts the flow of the story. It’s a very quick read and personally don’t think it’s worth $15 for being so short, but for a collectors item it would make sense. The artwork is well done though!

Awesome story arc about Darth Maul, and unexpectedly about Sidious
Really love the story, though only in 4 issues.Perhaps the first canon story in which Maul shows his emotions towards someone close to him, rather than merely hatred or rage towards his enemies. Perhaps the first time Maul loses his control in fear of losing the one he cares about.Terrific characterization of my most favorite Darth Sidious, though not necessarily the main character in this arc. So powerful, deadly and fearsome that any who dare betray him shall consider the consequences seriously. Sidious is so confident yet never underestimates his enemies. He reveals unbelievable calmness even in the final duel against one of the most mysterious beings in the galaxy, and that is the true master of the Sith, derived from fear, anger, hate and passion, but ultimately beyond all of it.The story is a good continuation of The Clonne Wars episode "The Lawless", and makes deeper sense why Maul hates Sidious and his later Empire so much in Rebels, not simply because of the destruction of his rule on Mandalore. However, the portrayal of Dooku and Obi-Wan Kenobi is kind of disappointing. Dooku, who is supposed to be elegant and confident, turns out to be such a big embarrassment in this story. And Obi-Wan? You might see what I mean if you have a look at his weird reaction to the death of one of his colleague Jedi -- That is not Obi-Wan, not a bit, more like an emotionally sensitive old fool.

The Darth Maul story that never was
Being a huge fan of the clone wars cartoon I was really mad when Disney cancelled the series but at least we got this excellent comic that shows us what might have been. Clearly the best Star Wars comic in my humble opinion

Excellent
Excellent read and links Darth Mauls storylines perfectly from Season 5 to the Siege Of Mandalore.

Great comic
Great set of stories that were meant to be included in the clone wars but missed out. Interesting to hear more about maul and the shadow collective.

Darth Mail at his best.
Excellent graphic novel, Maul's continuing story leading on from the Clone Wars animated TV series is superb. A must read for Star Wars fans.

Enjoyable addition to the unfinished Clone Wars tales.
An enjoyable romp with Tyranus and Maul - something we should have been treated to a long time ago. Both characters are portrayed well, and it's satisfying to see some of the loose ends from Clone Wars being addressed. One of the few good Disney additions, if a bit short and stilted at times.
