Very ice labeler.
I have owned several Brother label makers before but this one is the best one of all that I have used. The PC app actually works correctly and you can design custom labels with it and even print the labels from the app. My two biggest complaints about this labeler are that there is no available carrying/storage case for it and it wastes 1 inch of label tape with every label you make. However that said, this is much less expensive to use in terms of label tapes than most other brands of label maker due to not having to use a separate printer ribbon in addition to the tape itself.

Awesome except for one thing
To be fair, it is more like 4.5 stars. Basically, it would have got 5 stars if it wasn't for one thing which really bugs me. Every time I print a label, it shoots out a blank one about 1/2 inch long for no apparent reason. I've tried to disable this but the only reference I could find was that it was not possible to stop this from happening. It is a big waste of money and time(because if you print a lot, then you have to sort through the blanks). That is really the only bad thing. Everything else is pretty good. The unit is large but it is still definitely handheld and portable. The battery life is pretty impressive and it has a lot of options when it comes to what you can add to the label(warning signs, etc,)They keyboard is easy to use. The UI is pretty good and I like that there are special buttons so you don't have to spend all day navigating to find a single symbol buried under different categories. The most important part for me was the software which I have to say is pretty impressive. I normally just hook the unit to my laptop via the USB port and do everything on the software. It worked on both my Windows 7 and Windows 8 desktop/laptop without any issues. It was the definition of plug and play. I have to say more about the software because it is the highlight of the unit. I used it to print about 30 labels for CAT5 cables. The software actually has a template specific for various cable identification. It saved me the trouble of having to reorient the text or having to line up each row of text.

A great little labeler and well worth the money
This item was a lot more expensive than my other brother p touch labelers. But, as they say, you get what you pay for, and this is a good example. It can be plugged in, or run off regular batteries or off the lithium ion battery they provide. It has numerous options regarding printing labels, fonts, framing etc. It also allows you to print a number of the same label, automatically cutting each in between, with only a touch of the print button between each printed label to facilitate the cut. It also appears to be somewhat water resistant with the touch pad being covered with one piece of water resistant material. I used it to label individual pot markers in my greenhouse, sometimes 32 at a time.

Expensive, but a noticeable improvement for the money.
Yup. Its expensive. Its actually quite large as well. Double check the dimensions before ordering, as it kind of surprised me.But dang, it works. The auto-cutter is very nice, the rechargeable battery is strong and seems to last well. The keyboard is comfortable to use, and the screen is responsive and easy to read. Having used many different quality brother TZ label makers, the interface on this is MUCH better, and the auto-cutter makes for much more efficient tape use.I've used the full size keyboard version of this (less portable, I think it was the 9600) and this works the same way, just in a more tool-bag friendly format. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the good version for my tool bag. Glad I did.Comes with a sample tape, but 3/4" version, not 1/2" like many. It will easily accept the full range of TZ tapes. Also comes with the battery pack that sits in the AA battery well, and the Wall Wart charging cord. Solid package, and worth it for quality labels.

Can’t go wrong with any P-Touch.
This is a great label maker. I’ve used several for work including this one. This one does large and small labels. You can also connect it directly to your pc as use brothers software which is also great and FREE! In addition, if you are inclined, there is a sdk you can use and create your own custom software. I’ve created an app with it that gets used every day.

With the amount of tape wasted, they are obviously in the business of selling tape and not printers.
I have a problem with their default of wasting a large amount of tape by using a very large margin on both sides of your type. You can change the margin to save tape (part of the waste is unavoidable because of the placement of the cutter) and Brother support will tell you that it will stay that way until you pull the batteries. BUT THEY LIE! It changes back to the wasteful mode anytime it wants. They are obviously in the business of selling tape and not printers. It fell on a deaf ear when I suggested that they change the default because everyone who see the waste complains about it. Everyone!

As far as I know, its great
Loved this label printer. Only got to use it twice, but it was awesome. Nothing but good things to say. Sadly, it was stolen when my work truck was broken into, can't review it any further than those two times.

Very poor customer service
After not using the printer for several months I went back to make a label, my computer tells me that I do not have the drivers for this product? I go on line to down load new drivers but I need to re-establish an account with data such as serial number, phone number. new pass word, date of purchase, etc. I already gave then that data when I registered the product over a year ago. I cannot down load new drivers. Hp only asks for the model number to down load, what gives? Very poor customer service. I like the printer but am about to ash can the useless pieces of junk due to customer care. Just let me down load the drivers. Oh yes I have records of 7 program down loads so I am in the system. Don't buy this Brothers as they make it very hard needlessly. I purchased the thing in Oct 2016 now is Aug 2017.
